Position : MT Department of Justice – Regional Agent in Charge
Job Description : The MT Department of Justice is seeking a dynamic individual to fulfill the role of Regional Agent in Charge (RAC) in beautiful eastern Montana. The Regional Agent in Charge (RAC) is responsible for management of staff and the office. This involves recruitment and selection, assigning and reviewing work, training, establishing performance standards, evaluating performance, handling corrective action, and recommending termination if necessary.This work requires knowledge of supervisory principles and practices, DOJ and State Personnel policies, procedures, and precedents, and employment law.Supervises and coordinates the activities of agents conducting confidential, complex, and sensitive investigations, primarily relating to violations of dangerous drug laws. Daily (or hourly) decisions are made regarding how, or even if, an investigation should continue, weighing the outcomes versus the danger and liability.Extensive involvement in the decisions as to how to proceed in the investigation, preparation for prosecution, and maintenance of evidence.This must all be considered in conjunction with a thorough working knowledge of all drug laws, search and seizure laws, federal as well as state and local statues, and current court decisions and case law dealing with these issues, use of force, search warrant service, and civil liability.QUALIFICATIONS:Law enforcement training including the MLEA Basic course or its equivalent.Current POST certification.Valid Montana motor vehicle operator’s license.Proof the applicant has met the MLEA law enforcement physical standards within at least the last six months.Supervisory training or experience at least equal to one year at some level in a law enforcement agency. Additional law enforcement training, including narcotics investigation, surveillance equipment, computers, crime scene processing, accounting, financial investigations and first-line supervision desired.Other combinations of education and experience than those listed above will be considered on a case-by-case basis.A training assignment may be considered.Two (2) years of college (preferably in a police science-related field) and seven (7) years of investigative experience with a minimum of four (4) years as a full-time investigator handling a variety of investigations comparable to those a state agent is expected to handle;ORTen (10) years of investigative experience with a minimum of four (4) years as a full-time investigator handling a variety of felony investigations comparable to those a state agent is expected to handle.ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONHOW TO APPLY:To be considered for this position, you must attach a cover letter and résumé at the time of application.Tip: When attaching your cover letter and resume you must mark each of the attachments as a “Relevant File”.++Your Cover Letter++: How do your qualifications and experience directly correlate to the duties of this position and what makes you the best candidate for the job?++Your Résumé++: Please include all work experience as well as job duties that demonstrate your qualifications for this position.
