Job Description : About Our Job

The Denver Police Department is seeking qualified candidates for the position of National Crime Information Center Agent. This is position requires a heavy amount of data entry, review of minute details within documents, serving citizens and law enforcement on the phone, scanning documents, handling mail, entering high priority items such as auto theft information, warrant information and missing persons. The position utilizes the criminal justice computer system(s) to assist law enforcement personnel in the apprehension and identification of subjects wanted for criminal matters. The position frequently handles graphic and disturbing information and images. This is a non-uniformed, civilian position with clerical and customer service duties within the Unit. Employee shifts and days off are voted by seniority. The selected candidate will be placed on the overnight shift or swing shift with days off during the week. Training in the position lasts over three months and will be conducted on day or swing shift depending on the instructor’s assigned schedule. This position requires elevated security privileges that require a polygraph examination, zero consumption of marijuana in any form within the last one year and zero consumption of illegal drugs within the last 5 years. Job responsibilities include:

Operating a personal computer, or terminal to collect and enter data on individuals being detained or investigated and establish if the said individual has a warrant(s) for his/her arrest. Reviewing, coding and correcting police reports. Sorting, examining, and entering data from pawn shop tickets. Scanning police documents into case files. Handling and distributing the Police Department’s mail, handing incoming auto theft information from patrol officers. Receiving vehicle information from tow truck companies towing or repossessing vehicles. Entering sex offender registration information into multiple law enforcement systems. Respond to customer requests for reports and police department information electronically and by phone. Review and process police reports filed online.
Utilizes the NCIC (National Crime Information Center) and CCIC (Colorado Crime Information Center) computer database systems to search and cross reference criminal records for the purpose of identification; while maintaining security and confidentiality of records, equipment and computer access.
Operates various systems and software to complete a variety of criminal justice tasks that require attention to detail, a high-degree of reading comprehension, problem solving and logic. The position handles documents and information that may contain graphic reports and images that some find disturbing.
The position is responsible for careful review of information that may be confusing, complex and contain intricate details, that if missed or interpreted incorrectly could have serious ramifications to the safety and liberty of others.
This position is responsible for repetitive tasks that may include data entry, filing, sorting and scanning.

Education: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
Experience: Three years of clerical experience.
Education & Experience Equivalency: A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements.
License/Certification: Must pass an initial pre-security clearance screening and maintain CBI (Colorado Bureau of Investigation) certification as a condition of employment. Must take and pass an online test every two years to maintain certification. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.

The Denver Police Department is a 24-hour operation. This position will require you to work on one of three shift rotations during training. Once training is completed, you will be assigned to a particular shift. You must be available to work various shift schedules, which includes evenings, nights, weekends and some holidays. Shift assignments are voted by seniority.
