We inspire a broad and diverse audience to do the activities they love with greater enjoyment, inspiration, and knowledge and are dedicated to making real change in the outdoor and fitness industries.Outside Business Journal, the premier trade publication in the outdoor space, is seeking a News Reporter to manage our daily coverage of the most important business stories in our industry. This is a writing position.The ideal candidate will be an enterprising reporter and interviewer who can get scoops, write quickly and creatively, and contextualize the news with good analysis and industry history. In this role, you will produce at least 2 articles each day, written to the highest journalistic standards, including breaking news, CEO profiles, product spotlights, and more. You will also contribute content to our daily business newsletter, co-manage our social media channels, and write the occasional deep dive that helps our readers understand industry trends and look around corners.We’re looking for someone who understands the ins and outs of a B2B news model, and who can translate business news developments into smart, engaging stories with important context. Bonus points if you have experience producing and measuring content in a gated or paywall environment, and if you have outdoor industry-specific expertise and contacts.If you’re a creative and passionate journalist who wants to break stories about the issues, change agents, and financial developments shaping a progressive and ever-changing industry—one that’s full of fun, adventure-loving people—we’d love to hear from you.
Responsibilities:

Write and post content to Outside Business Journal’s channel on OutsideOnline.com, including breaking news, profiles, product spotlights, and more
Maintain close contact with a broad array of diverse industry sources, and generate stories ideas with an eye toward original scoops
Help produce content for OBJ’s daily business newsletter
Monitor and post on OBJ’s social platforms on a daily basis
Represent OBJ in the field at industry events and trade shows

Qualifications:

Personal enthusiasm for outdoor recreation
3 to 5 years’ experience as a business journalist or editor
A Bachelor’s degree or higher in journalism, English, or a related field
Proven daily reporting experience at a B2B publication that demonstrates an ability to cover breaking news quickly, thoroughly, and fairly
Terrific interviewing and interpersonal skills
Fluency with the basics of digital content optimization and measurement—including SEO writing, Google Analytics, email subject line writing, and similar skills
Working experience with WordPress or a similar CMS
Work-related social media experience
A highly organized, self-directed working demeanor
Comfort in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment that often requires juggling multiple projects at once
A passion for changing the business media landscape in the outdoor space through innovation and forward-thinking editorial leadership

Entirely remote jobs that could be performed in Colorado: Employees can expect to be paid a salary of between $48,000 to $60,000. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission . Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, Flexible Time Away, sick leave, and more. This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors
