Job Description : Job Overview: This position provides direct services to employees at Montana State Hospital by coordinating, investigating, reviewing, and tracking worker’s compensation claims, transitional duty, ADA, and medical absences. This position reports to MSH’s Senior Manager of Human Resources.

Essential Duties or Responsibilities:
Worker’s Compensation Management 50%
Reviews all workers’ compensation claims for accuracy, gathering additional details when needed, and keeps records of all claims. Provides technical assistance facility management and employees on workers’ compensation laws and with individual claims management.
Actively manage claims for injured workers including, but not limited to analyzing injury data, working with managers and employees to remedy injury patterns, investigating injuries, maintaining and documenting regular contact with State Fund and employees, monitoring employee progress and maintaining documentation.
Analyzes work demands, essential duties, physical demands, and employee capabilities, in concert with doctors and rehabilitation consultants, and recommends appropriate working arrangements that allows the employee to return to work or continue at work while minimizing the potential for re-injury.
Monitor and manage early return to work program for the Department and its facilities and provides technical assistance and training to management and employees regarding ERTW and light duty.
Develops innovative solutions for correcting a variety of complex risk management issue
Employee Medical Leave 25%
Compiles information regarding FMLA through review of payroll records and issues FMLA entitlement letters.
Provides FMLA information/training to supervisors
Tracks FMLA records and informs stakeholders of an employee’s FMLA status.
Coordinates with multiple other positions within DPHHS including, but not limited to, the DPHHS Safety Officer, MSH Occupational Health and Safety Officer, and ADA/EEO Coordinator as needed to complete assigned duties.
Administers FMLA for those on worker’s compensation leave including, but not limited to, ensuring all federal and state regulation are followed in the administration and tracking of such leave.
Service Coordination 15%
Provides information to managers and employees related to various processes and procedures.
Researches, reviews and responds to Unemployment Insurance (UI) claims requests. Advocates for the department’s position throughout the determination process from initial notice to redetermination to hearing in compliance with UI rules and regulations.
Researches and advises managers on best practices for direct services.
Performs other HR functions as assigned including, but not limited to, recruitment and selection; letter writing; document tracking; license tracking; and onboarding.
Other Duties as Assigned 10%
Assists with tasks and assignments provided by senior and executive leadership.
Participates in team activities as directed.
Provides input and feedback to Hospital Administrator / Chief Operations Officer as directed.
Performs other duties as directed.

Physical and Environmental Demands: This position is assigned an office within a psychiatric facility. Physical requirements include keyboarding, sitting, walking, reaching, pulling, pushing, climbing, bending, and squatting. A normal schedule is a standard 40-hour week; however, longer hours might be necessary, including weekends and after office hours. This position may face multiple interruptions during a regular work day and may interact with difficult individuals.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Required for the first day of work:
Knowledge of medical practices and nursing procedures.
Knowledge of human resource principles and practices related to worker’s compensation
Strong writing skills including knowledge of the structure and content of the English language, the meaning and spelling of the words, rules of competition and grammar.
Ability to research, compile, and analyze data from multiple sources to identify and resolve a wide variety of issues and problems.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Strong presentation skills.
Ability to coach and motivate others to improve their knowledge and skills.
Ability to be understanding and remain nonconfrontational, while maintaining focus, demeanor and composure in dealing with individuals with differing points of view.
Ability to use software programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
Well organized with good attention to detail.

Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications (Education and Experience):
Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Communications, Health and Safety, or a related field.
Two years job related work experience.
Other combinations of education and experience may be considered on a case by case basis.
