Job Description : The University of Montana invites applications for a Learning Designer for UMOnline. The Learning Designer will advance online and distance student learning experiences and collaborative partnerships that result in the growth of high-quality student learning opportunities. This position will collaborate with the UMOnline Leadership Team to advance strategic priorities that result in the growth of online/distance academic partnerships; advance the retention of online students through high-quality virtual student services; cultivate a distance profile of UMOnline as the leader in experience and success of online students.
This position will collaborate with the UMOnline team and work with directly with faculty to envision online, blended and web-enhanced course opportunities and goals that may include the integration of stackable credentials, microcredentials, and digital badges. Assist in the design and delivery of engaging and effective training technology, instructional design, and related best practices. Work with UMOnline leaders and university stakeholders to establish a community of practice that values distance learning and strives for continual skill building and innovation.
The role will have a particular focus on:
Training, workshops for professional development in online learning/ innovative curriculum applications
Leading units in online program development with consistent instructional design themes that include coordinated curricular design across a program
Development of coordinating scheduling and stackable programming for seamless adult learner academic pathways with and across programs and curriculums
Working closely with the UMOnline leadership team and campus entities to develop hybrid and flexible learning opportunities for learners of varying backgrounds and levels.
Work closely with UMOnline leadership to implement new learner initiatives that align with university infrastructure needs and policies.
Work closely with UMOnline leadership to collaborate on program development with online program management partners and university faculty and instructors.
Coordinate efforts with UMOnline and UM offices such as Admissions, Registrar’s, Office of Student Success to support online students’ needs for learning success from initial interest through graduation.
Support the strategic planning, development, and assessment process in online student success
Perform online and institutional research using analytics, data collection to develop data-driven strategies that advance new learning programming and related engagement initiatives.
Research, assess, select, troubleshoot, implement and support emerging technologies that benefit the university’s teaching and learning priorities for student success.
Cultivate constructive relationships including diplomatically and proactively handling challenges, questions, or conflict, while successfully generating symbiotic solutions through collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
Demonstrate commitment to a personal and professional growth mindset by engaging in the continuous investigation of emerging technologies, pedagogies, and leadership best practices through educational opportunities; professional publications or presentations; advancing personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
Working with faculty and instructional designers to develop courses to meet learner needs with backward design principles
Consult with faculty to develop course sequences and planning that includes coordination with instructional design processes.
Assess faculty development and support needs and develop a strategic approach to help with online program development as it evolves.
Maintain and promote sound instructional design process in each existing online program, and collaborate with the Director of Instructional Design throughout that process.

Position Details
Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, Letter of Appointment and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including Insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program.
Salary for this position is $50,000-$60,000 per year commensurate with qualifications.
Required Qualifications
The successful candidate will demonstrate an independent work ethic and will be responsible for remaining current with developments in the field of online design and adult learning. The candidate must be self-motivated and able to work under time constraints. Consultation and collaboration will be key functions of this position, both internally and externally. This candidate should have a strong commitment to creating a vibrant and welcoming culture that expects and respects diversity.

Proven ability to work collaboratively with a wide variety of stakeholders to meet organizational goals.
Demonstrated capacity to think strategically and execute tactically.
Must be able to practice creative problem solving and respond well in a fast-paced, continually evolving environment.
Must be detail oriented, have good analytical skills, and able to learn the rules, policies, and procedures governing online degree programs
Ability to work independently and on a team
Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted during the course of work
Ability to work individually on multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment;
Have demonstrated knowledge and experience in online education efforts and issues
Ability to take on complex projects with little oversight.
Communications:
Build sustainable relationships and trust with stakeholders through responsive communication.
Excellent oral communication skills, including ability to work with faculty
Effective interpersonal skills
Proven ability to provide excellent customer service to stakeholders and assessing needs to achieve satisfaction.
Organization and Implementation:
Strength in coordinating, scheduling, reviewing, tracking, troubleshooting, and adapting project efforts.
Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively, on multiple projects simultaneously.
Education and experience:
Master’s degree in areas related to education, learning theory, instructional design
In lieu of degree, consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required work experience
Online teaching experience
Experience with online learning and related pedagogy
Preferred Qualifications
Instructional Designer Experience
Experience with best practices of distance learning and new learners
Experience working with Online Program Management Partners
Experience working with faculty and instructors in distance education settings
Computer skills including use of Microsoft Office Suite, Banner, Moodle, and other enterprise technologies
