Denver Parks & Recreation (DPR) provides a broad range of programs, services, facilities and park amenities in the City and County of Denver. Outdoor Recreation (ODR), specifically, offers a variety of outdoor activities for all ages. Programs include but are not limited to: climbing at Genesee Ropes Course, group hiking in the mountains, rock climbing, teambuilding programs, stand up paddleboarding, adventure programs, and the learn to ski and ride program.
DPR’s Outdoor Recreation Team is looking to hire a Group and Community Engagement Coordinator to market and manage outdoor recreation programs, engage the community, and help oversee open enrollment, scheduling of trips, and staff management.
Job responsibilities:
Coordinate with Recreation Center Coordinators, partner organizations or city representatives to coordinate the use of facilities and implementation of programs that have been identified through collaborative efforts to meet the needs of the community and customers
Perform community outreach and engagement to solicit input regarding the program’s direction and effectiveness, and to develop new programs based on community needs
Work closely with the DPR Marketing Team to help promote programs; regularly engage new and innovative marketing strategies to ensure continual growth of ODR programs
Oversee program calendar and staff scheduling to maximize programming opportunities while ensuring that staffing and resources are available to support the programs
Assist in hiring, staff recruitment, and implementing of on-call staff training and development
Manage and coordinate seasonal programming, such as Learn to Ski and Ride, Urban Riders, and various open enrollment day-and-overnight trips
Collaborate with the Program Administrator and Administrative Assistant to reserve spaces with internal and external partners
Routinely instruct programs in all activity areas
Assists the Outdoor Recreation Team with other duties as assigned
About You
We are looking for a passionate and organized recreation professional with experience in implementing and coordinating outdoor recreation programs. Candidates must enjoy working in a fast-paced setting and should excel while working under pressure. This position requires strong skills in both working collaboratively and independently.
Additionally, our ideal candidate will possess the following:
Wilderness First Aid Certification
Certification(s) in outdoor recreation disciplines preferred
Experience planning, coordinating, and implementing outdoor recreation programs
Experience in marketing programs and/or community engagement
Strong organizational skills, ability to be flexible amidst changing priorities, and able to work a variety of shifts including evenings and weekends

Education: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate
Experience: Five (5) years of experience working in recreation, education, or a closely related field
Licensures/Certification(s): Requires a valid Driver’s License at the time of application; requires certification in CPR/First Aid at the time of application or by the completion of probation; licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment
Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirement
