Job Summary

The
Office of Data Analytics (ODA) seeks a creative and experienced
Institutional Research People Analyst to help drive innovation, and support data-informed decisions across our institution. The People Analyst is a key team member who will help us understand and improve the lives of all CU Boulder employees. In this role, you will develop datasets, reports, analyses, and data products to help answer research questions about how CU Boulder can best serve its faculty and staff.

In this role, you will be an official point-of-contact for campus staff statistics and so you must have a strong understanding of data management; the ability to create tidy, well-documented data sets; and demonstrate keen attention to detail. ODA includes top-notch data science, measurement, assessment, and software development teams. We collaborate widely within the institution. We’re looking for an experienced People Analyst who is intellectually curious and boundary-spanning.

Who We Are

ODA houses the Institutional Research, Reporting & Analytics, and Faculty Information System groups, which specialize in data collection, analysis, and visualization. Some offerings to campus include department- and campus-level surveys, faculty course questionnaires, and additional consulting projects that address data analysis and exploration needs for an individual classroom to larger campus initiatives. ODA also leads efforts to create and manage the University’s Data Lake, which brings many data sources across campus into one location for deeper, meaningful analysis. The ODA’s mission is to foster an understanding of institutional knowledge. This is done by transforming data into actionable intelligence; aiding the decision-making processes throughout the University.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Data Resources:

Develop and maintain the data resources that enable the institution to analyze data to understand its employees and improve their experience of working at the university.
This includes responsibility for the code, datasets, and documentation.
Partner with the Office of Human Resources and Office of Faculty Affairs in the development of resources that support campus-wide data and analytic efforts.

Analysis and Reporting:

Serve as team expert and lead analyst focused on employee and faculty data.
Compile reports and analyses that highlight trends at the university and compare outcomes with peer universities.
This includes salary equity studies, market impact, and other analyses requiring the statistical know-how to build multiple regression models.

Request Fulfillment:

Respond to general and annual requests for data and/or reports from the campus community these will focus primarily, but not exclusively on human resources data.

Other duties:

An active member of the ODA staff and campus community.
Participating in staff meetings, representing ODA on selected campus-wide standing and ad hoc committees, and working with the rest of ODA on opportunities to leverage people-related data.

What You Should Know

Work modality for this position will be hybrid, requiring 1- 2 days per week in the office.

What We Can Offer

Annual base salary range for this position is $75,000 – $90,000.

What We Require

A bachelor’s degree with background and/or experience using quantitative skills and research methods to answer important business questions. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
3 years of professional experience doing data science or analytic work.
1 year of professional experience with both relational databases such as SQL, and a statistical programming language such as R, Python, or SAS.

What You Will Need

Experience working with, creating, or managing large collections of institutional data.
Vision, collaboration skills, and an entrepreneurial attitude.
Ability to identify and tell compelling stories through data visualizations or dashboards.
Discretion and good judgment when using sensitive employee data.
Enthusiasm about creating something new.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Able to inform institutional decisions using data and by communicating clearly how statistical results could be leveraged for organizational improvement.
Intellectual curiosity and an ability to ask novel questions and seek analytic solutions.
Interest in, or experience advancing, the missions of public higher education.

What We Would Like You To Have

Master’s or Ph.D. degree in statistics, psychology, sociology, mathematics, computer science, decision science, education policy, economics, or a similar field.
3+ years professional experience coding in SQL.
3+ years professional experience in R, Python (pandas, numpy, scikit) or SAS including demonstrated abilities in translating between SAS and R/Python.
2+ years professional experience with data visualization.
2+ years professional experience with multiple regression analysis with a scaled outcome variable.
1+ year experience working with HR data including experience analyzing salary data for equity and compliance.
1+ year of professional experience structuring data to facilitate analysis and reporting.
Experience working with, creating, or managing large collections of institutional data.
Demonstrated ability to create reproducible, reusable, well-documented code.
Demonstrated ability to utilize Github or similar code versioning tools.
