Job Description : Job Summary

HIRING RANGE: $49,018.11- $51,246.21 annually An eligibility list may be created for this position
This position is responsible for performing a variety of criminal justice-related information management duties consistent with established procedures, statutes, and regulations. Problem Solving, Decision Making, and multi-tasking in a dynamic environment are activities representative of this Police Department occupational group.

Major Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Achieve and maintain certification as a Colorado Crime Information Center (CCIC) terminal operator.

Authorize release of impounded vehicles.

Enter, maintain, confirm, and cancel municipal and county arrest warrants.

Process cash and surety bonds for municipal and county prisoners.

Receive, duplicate, distribute, and maintain offense incident, accident, and supplemental reports generated by all police divisions.

Research requests for information received in person, by telephone, and by mail from police personnel, other criminal justice agencies, city departments, insurance companies, and the public.

Review, interpret, classify and code reports to produce statistics for departmental, regional, and national use.

Verify and enter selected alpha-numeric data into local, state, and national criminal records systems.

Generate statistical data for use by the department, citizens, and other criminal justice agencies and monitor and verify the correct coding for National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS).

Process money transactions, checks and/or cash from customers for fees including police reports, fingerprinting, VIN inspections, etc.

Process reports received via the Lakewood Police Department Internet Reporting System

Provide system training for agents including entering reports and correcting NIBRS errors.
Must be able to interact with others in a positive manner.

Requires regular and prompt attendance.

IMPORTANT JOB FUNCTIONS

Review procedures, weekly updates in the Section newsletter, department manuals, CCIC newsletters, training bulletins, crime watch bulletins, and other

resources to maintain job knowledge and specific familiarity with every police division due to constant changes.

Conduct audits of warrants and summons books.

Assist co-workers and volunteers; participate in cross-training programs.

Prepare source documents for replication and storage. Move boxes of files weighing up to 30 pounds.

Essential Qualifications

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

Previous clerical/office or data entry experience, as well as previous customer service experience.

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

Ability to become NCIC/CCIC certified.

Due to training and technical skills required, a one-year probationary period is required.

Bi-lingual (Spanish-speaking) ability is a desirable qualification.

Due to the nature of the work, an employee in this position is considered essential. Essential personnel are determined by the chain of command, the type of emergency and the human resources needed.

Testing includes: Suitability Testing, Attention to Detail test, preliminary and oral board interviews, data entry test, polygraph, background investigation, and a hair follicle drug test.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Prior experience with shift work.

Law enforcement/criminal justice background.

Data entry accuracy at the equivalent of 5,000 keystrokes per hour.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Lifting and Carrying:

Ability to move boxes weighing up to 30 pounds using assistance, if needed. A cart will be available to assist movement.

Body Positions:

Work is performed in an office environment, with some walking within the Police Department and other locations within the Public Safety Center and surrounding City of Lakewood facilities. Extended periods of sitting and standing, as well as reaching, stretching, and bending from six inches to six feet vertically. Position requires the ability to input large amounts of data using repetitive motion in keystrokes and data entry on a consistent daily basis.

Hearing:

Hearing sufficient to converse over the telephone and in person through a glass barrier, hear computer beeping, as well as perform other job functions.

Vision:

Employee uses vision to enter data into computer, read handwriting and various reports and other documents.

MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Mathematics:

Must have basic math skills to calculate fees collected for police reports.

Remembering:

Ability to remember policies and procedures and to apply them in managing workload.

Language Ability:

Must be able to read, interpret and comprehend various documents and be able to speak English in order to communicate with citizens, co-workers and other people in the work environment.

Reasoning:

Ability to make effective decisions based on good judgment.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.

Attention to Detail:

Ability to proofread computer entry and hand written documents to guarantee that information is correct.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in a restricted, windowless office environment.

Work includes frequent interruptions from telephone and walk-in traffic, a high volume of work, and strict deadlines and time constraints.

Work involves dealing with angry, frustrated, upset or hostile, abusive individuals. In-person contact with arrestees and sex offenders.
