Job Description : Job Summary
This is an opportunity to be sponsored as a Recruit/Trainee by the Town of Parker Police Department for a Level 1 Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Board Certification. Upon successful completion of the Academy instruction and obtaining a Level 1 P.O.S.T. certification, the Parker Police Department intends to employ the Recruit as a fulltime Police Officer, with the Patrol Division of the Parker Police Department. A training agreement is required to be signed after successful completion of all stages of the background process and prior to appointment of the approved full-time P.O.S.T. certified academy. This agreement will bind the Recruit/Trainee to a three (3) year employment commitment to the Town of Parker Police Department with outlined sanctions if not fulfilled.

Essential Qualifications
Must be 21 years of age of older. Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice or related field is preferred but not required. Must have a minimum of two (2) years good driving history. Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s License and a good driving history. Current basic first aid and CPR certification or ability to obtain upon hire. Must have the ability to pass all phases of the selection process for Police Officer. The ability to successfully complete a background check including but not limited to: criminal history search, drug screen, motor vehicle record (MVR) check, polygraph, psychological and physical examination and physical agility test is required.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to attend a fulltime P.O.S.T. certified Police Academy as identified by the Parker Police Department.
Ability to successfully complete the Police Academy and obtain a Level 1 Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Board certification.
Ability to type 30 words per minute with 90% accuracy.
Must adhere to the financial and time commitment of three (3) years as outlined in the Training Agreement.
Ability to retain knowledge of modern police principles, procedures, techniques and equipment.
Ability to retain knowledge of human nature, human problems and problem solving methods.
Good employment history, good moral character.
Ability to read and write the English language effectively.
Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions and the ability to issue clear concise verbal and or written instructions.
Interpersonal communications skills which are both effective and reasonable.
Proficiency in the use of police equipment.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of people.
Ability to function effectively over a long period of time and under a variety of conditions.
Ability to perform work which requires good physical condition.
Ability to successfully complete a Police Department background check including but not limited to: criminal search, Psychological exam, Polygraph test, physical agility exam, drug screen, etc.
Additional Information
Recruits/Trainees must attend the academy that is selected and utilized by the Parker Police Department. The regular basic course, commonly referred to as the Police Academy, consists of 556 hours of state-mandated training. The curriculum is certified by the P.O.S.T., and was developed based on empirical studies by the commission of the skills, knowledge and abilities required of law enforcement officers. Depending upon the provider of the training, the number of hours for the presentation will vary, but will never be less than the mandatory number of hours of 556. Any additional training hours must be P.O.S.T. certified training hours.
Recruits/Trainees are expected to attend the academy at the dates/times outlined by the course curriculum and P.O.S.T. Academy Director. To support the Recruit/Trainee during this time, channels of communication will be open between the Parker Police Department and the selected academy in order to monitor the progress of Recruits/Trainees and provide input to the academy training program. The regular basic course offered by the outside academies shall provide training as specified in P.O.S.T. and testing specifications. The academy shall be responsible for the administration of the prescribed training programs and provide for the fair and nondiscriminatory testing of each Trainee.

Full pay rate for Police Officer Recruit/Trainee is $25.00/hourFull-time non-sworn benefits include: Medical insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, short-term disability insurance, long-term disability insurance, life and AD&D insurance, voluntary term life insurance, 401(a) retirement plan, 457 retirement plan, holiday pay, vacation, sick leave, educational assistance program, employee assistance program and a family membership to the Parker Recreation Center and/or Field House.
