Position : Political Canvasser – Temporary – One week to the deadline!

Job Description : Position Summary:
The canvasser will talk to the public about various candidates running for office in Southern Arizona. As a Canvasser, you will be responsible for approaching people at their door, utilizing predetermined walk lists and sharing information about the candidate(s) with the ultimate goal of gaining signatures for candidate nominating petitions. We may also require you to hand out palm cards/door hangers.
To ensure success as a Canvasser, you should have excellent interpersonal skills, a strong background in the Tucson / Southern AZ community, and the ability to provide information on candidates and races happening in the area. Ultimately, a top-notch Canvasser is someone who can build rapport with their neighbors and help candidates get on the ballot through the collection of signatures. The deadline for Partisan Nominating Petition is AZ is April 4. Candidates from all parties need help getting their remaining signatures to get on the ballot. Be a part of good democracy!
Pay: Daily pay based on signatures collected. We have a total of 6 candidates, amd each is offering between $4-6 per signature. A typical canvasser can get 20 signatures in a 6 hour shift, and advanced canvassers can carry multiple petitions at once to multiply their earnings.
Essential Functions:

Understanding and knowing what resources are out there.
Driving to Canvassing locations.
Approaching and talking to people in their homes about the upcoming election.
Communicating candidate’s stances on various issues/policies.
Attending rallies, shows, fairs, and other community related events.
Maintaining a professional appearance.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED.
Previous work experience as a Canvasser is a plus.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Has the capability of selling ideas or products and swaying opinions.
Willing to travel extensively within the city.
Willing to work outdoors
Must be able to walk and stand for long periods.
Works effectively with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions, and perceptions.
Builds rapport and relates well to others.
Seeks first to understand the other person’s point of view, and remains calm in challenging situations.
Listens for understanding and meaning; speaks and writes effectively.
Strives to meet or exceed goals and deliver a high-value experience for members.

Pay: $60.00 – $180.00 per day
