Job Description
The Materials, Chemical, and Computational Science Directorate is looking for a postdoctoral researcher to explore the fundamentals of (photo)electrochemical fuel-forming reactions. The position will involve fabrication, testing, and characterization of thin-film (photo)electrodes and/or nanoparticulate (photo)catalysts for carbon dioxide reduction and other electrochemical reactions, with the goal of probing reaction mechanisms and understanding failure modes of model systems and full devices.

Basic Qualifications Must be a recent PhD graduate within the last three years.

Additional Required Qualifications
Candidates should have a demonstrated track record of success in addressing fundamental science questions and devising solutions to challenging problems. Scientific publications will be a primary goal of the research, and qualified candidates should demonstrate skills in the practice of research (particularly in electrocatalysis). The successful applicant should have expertise in data analysis, experimental design, and writing of manuscripts, and be excited to work in diverse, cross-disciplinary team to probe and understand electrochemical interfaces and durability of (photo)electrochemical systems. Preferred Qualifications:
A successful candidate will have expertise in one or more of the following areas: electrocatalysis, particularly for fuel-forming reactions such as HER, OER, CO2R, and N2RR; spectroscopic or other characterization of (photo/electro)catalysts and/or modified materials surfaces; semiconductor device physics. Additional experience in semiconductor photoelectrochemistry, spectro-electrochemistry, thin film or nanoparticle synthesis and surface modification, and other interfacial characterization techniques would be a benefit.
Ph.D. in chemistry, materials science & engineering, chemical engineering, physics, mechanical/electrical engineering, or related field

Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week) Annual Salary Range: $69,400 – $114,500
Offers will typically be made in the bottom half of the listed range. NREL takes into consideration a candidate’s education, training, and experience, as well as the position’s work location, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees. In compliance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, a potential new employee’s salary history will not be used in compensation decisions.
