Public Information Specialist is a highly responsible position that coordinates and implements the development, production, and dissemination of internal and external communications for Delta County and the Delta County Board of County Commissioners (BoCC). This position creates content for printed and electronic communications pieces, coordinates county events, administers the County’s various social media platforms, and performs related professional and administrative work.
Under limited supervision, perform multiple complex administrative, project management, financial, and clerical duties for the Board of County Commissioners (BoCC). In addition, provide exemplary customer service support in the form of responding to inquiries from internal and external customers. The individual in this position may handle a wide variety of confidential and difficult situations that require tact and discretion.
REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of journalistic principles, governmental public information, content planning, and public relations
Skill in the use of personal computers, including word-processing software, websites, spreadsheets, graphic design programs and various social media platforms
Ability to speak in a clear, well-modulated voice and deal with the public in a firm, courteous, tactful, prudent, and impartial manner
Ability to uphold confidential information
Ability to make sound decisions during stressful situations
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and to listen and understand
Ability to follow established protocols, laws, policies and procedures
Ability to maintain flexibility and adaptability when performing tasks and duties in a dynamic environment
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others

Education:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in public relations, journalism, communications, or a closely related field with at least two years of experience in public information desired
Licenses/Certifications:
Current and valid Colorado Driver’s License
Required National Incident Management System (NIMS) 100, 200, 300, 400, 700 certifications within one (1) year of employment
General Benefits:
Delta County offers benefits for this position which include medical, dental, vision, and additional selective optional insurances available to the employee and eligible dependents on a cost share basis between employee and the organization. Life insurance and employee only medical insurance is available at no cost to the employee. We have a pre-tax flexible spending account. Employees contribute 4% of salary to a 401(a) retirement account fully matched with 4% from the County along with an optional 457 tax advantaged deferred-compensation retirement plan. Paid time off is accrued at 14 hours per month with an additional 11 paid holidays in a calendar year. We have a comprehensive Employee Assistance Program (EAP) that includes counseling along with some legal and financial support counseling.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $25.77 – $35.47 per year
