Job Description : Employment Description – Recreation Manager Resort Information: Lutsen Resort is Minnesota’s first and oldest resort and has been in continuation operation since 1885. Lutsen has been showcasing its picturesque location on the North Shore of Lake Superior for 135 years. Our resort features a private stone beach complete with red Adirondack chairs for viewing the lake that match our historic red Scandinavian lodge designed by renown architect Edwin Lundie. Exploring the grounds of Lutsen Resort also includes viewing the water falls of the Poplar River from our famous red covered bridges. The resort features a fine dining restaurant, a second casual pub, wedding and event facilities, spa and golf course complimented by 165 lodging units sleeping over 750 guests per night making it one of 2 of the largest resorts on the North Shore both owned by North Shore Resort Company which prides itself of being family owned and operated.Mission: To fully support and co-execute ownerships directive to create and “Brand” “North Shore Excursions” in conjunction with managing recreational resort amenities; and in doing so also coach and lead the recreation team with the directive that it is our passion to create outstanding guest experiences!Position Duties & Responsibilities: Work on a daily basis with the “Guest Services Manager” to manage the recreation departments offeringsManage historic Red Bus ToursLead the recreation department staff in a “guest centric” manner· Operate the department on a daily basis with the focus on the guest! Daily staff meetings are to finish emphasizing that complete guest satisfaction is a priority. All decisions made should be taken with account of the guests and how the decision impacts their experiencesManage, facilitate and lead “North Shore Excursions”Manage and maintain with an emphasis on excellent condition; the “excursion” fleet of vehicles and vesselsManage the inventory of complimentary recreational equipment and ensure the equipment is in excellent condition and well cared forManage the resorts recreational amenities (ex: ice skating rink)Maintain recreational spaces, amenities and facilities in a neat and tidy manner as per the NSRC Service Standards Manual’s “Neat and Tidy Rule”Execute and lead complimentary resort programming (naturalist hikes and programs)Work with the GSM and GM to make sure that all recreational offerings are available more than reasonable amounts of time for the guest experience and convenience for the guest with the balance maintaining labor budgetsCommunicate departmental successes and potential issues along with candid guest feedback to the Guest Services Manager and to Director of Reservations (if needed)Reporting Structure: This position reports to the Guest Services Manager and General Manager along with the President/CEO when neededKayak/excursions guides, bus drivers, recreation staff and kids day camp instructor all report to the Recreation Manager; and Guest Services Manager when neededRequired Skills and Attributes: The successful candidate will show traits of a strong work ethic and have a sincere interest in the hospitality industry, and most importantly, have a desire to be in this industry to create great guest experiences.
