As a member of the library team, the successful candidate will provide reference services through print and electronic resources to the members of the firm. The successful candidate must be familiar with library processes and technology. The ideal candidate must be self-motivated, committed to excellence in their delivery and be detailed oriented.Responsibilities: Check-in and route materials using DB/Textworks databaseMaintain distribution lists for law reports, journals and desk copiesProcess serials, textbooks and loose-leaf servicesOrder new print publications as directed by LibrarianLiaise with publishers/vendors on subscription or ordering issues, problem-solve as necessaryResponsible for forwarding current awareness to lawyersCatalogue new print acquisitionsPerform basic document retrieval and respond to straight-forward quick reference requestsHandle interlibrary loansOpening and sorting mail and incoming book deliveriesShelving print publicationsProcess and sort loose-leaf filingGenerally assist the firm in all of their efforts as requiredProduce the highest quality of workAccountable for all work assignedTakes initiativeConfidentialRequirements: Previous experience in a library tech or assistant role, preferably in a professional services environmentSuccessful completion of post-secondary education in Library Science or Library and Information Technician DiplomaKnowledge of law libraries and the publication and organization of print and electronic legal materialsAbility to lift 30 poundsHandle time pressure situations and stress of multiple demandsSkills: Microsoft 365 suite of applicationsOnline legal, business and media research tools and resources such as Westlaw, CanLii, Lexis Nexis and eBooksAbility to problem solveGood judgement and decision makingStrong interpersonal skillsOrganizedResourcefulDetailedWhy You Should Apply: Opportunities for growth and on the job training and developmentCompetitive compensation and benefits packageWe pride ourselves on being a mid-sized firm with a family feelActive involvement in our community with opportunities to volunteerMentor programWellness programs_All Aird & Berlis employees are required to be fully vaccinated with a Covid-19 vaccine series, approved by Health Canada, as a condition of hire.
