Job Description : The Knowledge Synthesis and Application Unit (KSAU) is looking for an experienced and motivated Research Associate to join their research team. The KSAUis a research unit that specializes in conducting high quality evidence syntheses to inform healthcare and public health decision-making.Since April 2021, researchers at McMaster and Ottawa Universities, in collaboration with other groups, have deployed several editions of a living systematic review to evaluate the effects of COVID-19 variants of concern on vaccine efficacy that have been regularly communicated to the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC). The KSAU has recently received funding to extend this living evidence synthesis and link it with mathematical modelling of aspects of pathogenesis and transmission. The successful candidate will help support the conduct of this evidence synthesis under the direction of the team’s lead Research Associate. Day to day tasks include:Designing and executing literature searches of relevant databases (including preprint servers)Searching grey literature and reviewing references of included studiesScreening titles and abstractsScreening full-text articlesExtracting data from full-text articlesCritically appraising the quality of individual studies and the body of evidenceConducting meta-analyses, where appropriateSearching full-text articles of protocols using clinical trial registrationsContribute to discussions in interdisciplinary international teamContributing to the preparation of reports, presentations and manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and presentation at scientific meetingsAny other duties as required in this projectNecessary requirements: Graduate degree (MSc) in health research methodology, epidemiology, or equivalentDemonstrated training in systematic review methodsExperience in study management in an academic research environmentExperience of clinical or health services research projectsKnowledge of computer software packages including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPointAbility to work independently and collaborativelyStrong organizational and interpersonal skillsExcellent communication skills, written and oral, in EnglishPreferred qualifications: Experience with data pooling would be considered a strong assetResearch experience in the following disciplines would be an asset: immunology, virology, infectious diseases, vaccine sciencesProficiency with DistillerSR software and GRADEBilingual (French/English)This full-time position is grant funded and tenable for 1 year with the ability to work remotely.
