Job Description : This is an exciting growth opportunity for a BSc or Diploma level Research Technician to join the Bioassay Group at an innovative and rapidly growing biopharmaceutical contract testing laboratory located in Toronto, Canada. The position will start as a 1-year contract, with the possibility of extension.Custom Biologics is a Health Canada audited, GMP-compliant, global service provider for functional testing of biotherapeutics, biosimilars and antibody drug conjugates. For over 17 years our scientists have been designing and validating sophisticated bioanalytical assays to characterize and measure the therapeutic potential of large and small molecule biotherapeutics. Our work supports regulatory drug submission applications from biopharmaceutical companies globally.The successful candidate will be a key technical contributor to the execution of cell-based and solid phase ligand binding assays to measure the functional and affinity binding properties of biotherapeutics including therapeutic monoclonal antibodies, biosimilars, antibody drug conjugates, peptides, biologics and oncolytic viruses. We are seeking a scientist with a background in biochemistry, immunology, cellular biology and molecular biology laboratory techniques. Familiarity with GMP/GLP regulations is desired but not required.Scientific excellence is the pillar of the Company. S/he is highly motivated with a strong ‘can-do’ personality, excellent laboratory, critical thinking, results driven, and works well within a team to deliver excellence to our clients.KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESPerform hands-on laboratory work, with strict attention to scientific SOPs and strong scientific laboratory techniques.Work closely with a team of scientists to plan, organize and perform complex scientific assays.Perform cell culture-based bioassays, immunological assays (i.e. ELISA), protein affinity binding studies (biolayer interferometry), DNA-based and other assays as required.Assist in compiling and summarizing data for reports and presentations.Maintain excellent recording keeping and documentation.Comply with company’s health and safety standards, quality system and FDA GLP/GMP guidelines.Participate in Custom Biologics’ quality training and learning culture programs.Perform additional duties to support the safe and efficient operation of the laboratory and workplace.SKILLS & COMPETENCIESExcellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.Ability to be highly productive and successful in a high pace work environment with excellent attention to details and meticulous bench workCompetency in computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint).Willingness to perform routine laboratory assays.Self-motivated and comfortable working in a fast-paced environmentWillingness to champion new and existing projectsExcellent team player. Willing to support co-workers with other projects. Shares relevant information and seeks technical advice and input when necessaryWilling to accept temporary responsibilities outside of initial job descriptionEDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CREDENTIALS/SKILLS:BSc in biological sciences or a Diploma in Biotechnology/Laboratory Sciences required.Minimum of 2 years of relevant laboratory work experience.Expertise in molecular biology, immunology and mammalian cell culture techniques.Highly familiar with standard testing equipment and procedures including, but not limited to, ELISA, cell culture applications and cell-based bioassays.Familiarity with USP and FDA guidelines helpful but not required.WORKING CONDITIONSCandidate will be working in a controlled regulatory compliant biosafety level 2 laboratory environment and office.Work may periodically require attending to experiments outside standard working hours.Custom Biologics is an equal opportunity employer.
