Overview of Position
The Risk Adjustment Training & Development Specialist is responsible for the knowledge and skill development of the Clinical Review Coding and Quality Assurance (QA) Team to assure accurate and complete coding and reporting in line with ICD-10 Official Coding Guidelines for Coding and Reporting, CMS/HHS Risk Adjustment Guidance and all rules, regulations, and guidelines promulgated by CMS and applicable to contractors and subcontractors of CMS-approved sponsors (collectively “Standards”), all as reasonably interpreted by the Company. The Training Specialist will work closely with the Training and Development Manager in the planning, development, and delivery of training/onboarding, annual policy and procedure updates, and content of continuing education. The Training Specialist will also provide support for strategic clients in conjunction with the Training and Development Manager as needed as well as provide support for special projects and audits based on the operational and development needs of the Coding and QA team members. The Training Specialist will directly report to the Training and Development Manager and collaborate with the Clinical Review Operations and QA Management Teams to identify educational gaps and needs, including but not limited to planning, development, execution, and evaluation of training materials and activities.
What will be my duties and responsibilities in this job?
Assist in the planning and development of training curricula and materials that accommodate various learning styles
Participate in required learning management system testing prior to electronic delivery of materials
Facilitate the delivery of onboarding, new employee orientation, and coder training for Risk Adjustment HCC coding
Assist Coding and Quality Managers with training and follow up coaching as needed
Assist in the coordination and participation in transitional coaching of new hires
Develop action plans as needed to address learning gaps, including but not limited to, updating materials and/or methods of delivery
Maintain current knowledge and adhere to the ICD-10 Official Coding Guidelines for Coding and Reporting, CMS/HHS Risk Adjustment Guidance and all rules, regulations and guidelines promulgated by CMS and applicable to contractors and subcontractors of CMS-approved sponsors
Perform miscellaneous job duties as required to maintain coding quality and accuracy as required by Change Healthcare, Service Level Agreements, and Industry Standard requirements
Requires adherence to all HIPAA privacy & security requirements
Ability to assess and implement training and in-service needs to provide consultation
What are the requirements needed for this position?
High School Diploma / GED
2+ years of experience in HCC coding
Coding certification of any of the following: CPC, CCS, CCS-P, CPC-H, CRN-C, CPMA, CIC, COC
Certified Risk Adjustment Coder (CRC)
Knowledge of medical records and documentation requirements
Knowledge of HIPAA compliance and security
Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point)
What other skills/experience would be helpful to have?
Bachelor’s Degree
Project management experience
AAPC Approved Instructor License
Risk Adjustment Data Validation Audits
Strong written and oral communication skills
Strong organizational and time management skills
Ability to multi-task and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
Experience facilitating training sessions
Experience in data analytics
Strong written and oral communication skills
Strong organizational and time management skills
Experience working in a remote setting
