Job Description : POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Preoperative Admission Nurse (PAT) assures that all patients are assessed prior to their operative procedure and/or other invasive procedure. The PAT nurse collects and analyzes patient current and past medical/surgical history; coordinates pre-testing, treatments and assessments. PAT nurse educates patients and caregivers regarding procedure and surgery. Works collaboratively with surgeons, anesthesiologist, surgical services manager/staff and outpatient staff to ensure patient is optimized for surgery.

EDUCATION:
Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
EXPERIENCE:
2 years’ of experience in surgical nursing, preferred.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION
Current MT State RN license, required.
BLS, required.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Preparation of surgical patients and policy development experience.
Highly skilled in interaction with people at all levels of the organization, especially physicians.
Highly skilled in clinical assessment of patients’ current health status and past medical history.
Must possess exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills, be customer service oriented, and work as an integral part of the team.
Requires flexibility, independent thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Able to handle a busy workload.
