Job Description : Rocky Mountain Conservancy-Conservation Corps
The Rocky Mountain Conservancy – Conservation Corps hosts crews of youth (ages 18-25) for an eleven-week season completing on-the-ground conservation projects on public lands in Northern Colorado. Crews work throughout Rocky Mountain National Park and the Arapaho-Roosevelt National Forests completing projects related to trail maintenance and construction, habitat restoration, and historic preservation. Projects include clearing trail, constructing trail drainage, building trail structures (bridges, turnpikes, retaining walls), restoring native plant species, removing invasive species, preserving historic buildings, maintaining campgrounds, and more! Members work in teams of five with one crew leader. Crews work directly alongside National Park Service and USDA Forest Service staff while completing projects. Members will also participate in training activities with the Conservancy and land management partner. Throughout the service, members participate in educational programming, career advancement activities, and professional development training. During this program, members will develop on-the-ground job skills in natural resource management, network with land managers, practice effective leadership and communication skills, learn about public land management, develop an awareness of conservation techniques, enhance their career development resources, and enjoy living and working in Northern Colorado’s public lands. Crew leaders help to guide crew experience, assist with project planning and implementation, and support crew members throughout the term of service. The Conservation Corps program is a member and EAP sub-grantee of The Corps Network.
Member Duties : Crew leaders will lead crews of 4-5 members in on-the-ground conservation projects related to trail maintenance and construction, habitat restoration, and historic preservation; participate and lead trainings with the Rocky Mountain Conservancy and land management partner related to job skills, leadership styles, communication techniques, Leave No Trace ethics, back country cooking and sanitation, and defensive driving; attend educational field classes on the natural and cultural resources; develop job resources through resume work-shopping, job shadowing, and career exploration exercises; develop their personal leadership style through mentorship and feedback; and support crew members’ development and morale throughout the season.
