About Fort Logan
This position is located at the Colorado Mental Health Institute at Fort Logan (CMHIFL). CMHIFL is a 94 bed psychiatric facility located in Denver that is dedicated to meeting the needs of the community by providing mental health treatment to adult clients in the metro area. The mission of CMHIFL is to provide the highest quality mental health services to persons with complex, serious and persistent mental illness within the resources available.

Psychiatric treatment units exists to provide safe, effective, appropriate and continually improving nursing care to a patient group that is the responsibility of the hospital. Ft. Logan specializes in using strength-based, recovery-oriented care enabling patients to learn more effective coping and living skills in order to function more effectively in the community upon discharge from the hospital. The unit employs multiple approaches to psychiatric care and treatment including milieu management, dialectic behavior therapy, group psychotherapy, activity therapy, and patient education as well as medication management.

Description of Job

Job Assignment / Purpose of Position: To provide a safe work environment through enforcement of and adherence to Colorado Mental Health Institute at Fort Logan/Colorado Department of Human Service policies, Joint Commission standards, Life Safety Codes and Colorado Revised Statutes. Responds to crisis situations (i.e., physical or verbal assaults against person or property, suicidal behavior) by adhering to hospital policies and procedures in order to provide a safe and therapeutic work environment. Detect and correct safety concerns and/or violations in patient-care areas. Job Duties

Respond to hospital staff requests for assistance with client interventions.

Perform low-level interventions and approved physical intervention techniques.

Maintain safety throughout the hospital by responding to psychiatric emergencies and non-emergency situations.

Provide hospital security and enforcement by patrol and observation designed to detect, prevent and control security incidents at CMHIFL. Investigate and document reports of criminal activity. .

Provide traffic surveillance and parking control.

Maintain hospital safety via routine physical/environmental checks.

Perform monthly safety inspections of clinical units.

Identify security violations and safety hazards and take necessary actions to correct problem(s).

Transports clients and staff to and from various locations on and off hospital grounds.

Performs entries into various security-sensitive areas with or without staff assistance.

Maintain adequate safety coverage for CMHIFL

Communicates with police agencies concerning criminal records and patient reports.

Performs safety security offices duties to maintain adequate safety coverage for CMHIFL by providing security enforcement and detecting and investigating criminal activity.

Other duties that may arise while performing the duties of this position to meet the needs of the work unit and department.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Applicants must meet all of the following qualifications to continue in the selection process for this position. Work experience must be specifically documented in the “Work Experience” section of your application. Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
Two years of professional experience as a first responder, or in an emergency response related field (security, police, fire, corrections, etc..)

Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to work independently or within a team based approach despite availability of shift supervisor
Clear and effective written and oral communication skills
Ability to use independent judgment to accomplish tasks
Work experience in a safety or security setting.
Experience and knowledge of HIPAA rules.

Work Schedule:

Shift work-Varying shifts at 24/7 facility.

Conditions of Employment:

A pre-employment criminal background check will be conducted as part of the selection process as this position is deemed to have direct contact with vulnerable persons. Felony convictions, conviction of crimes of moral turpitude, or convictions of misdemeanors related to job duties may disqualify you from being considered for this position. Should your background check reveal any charges or convictions, it is your responsibility to provide the CDHS Background Unit with an official disposition of any charges.

Current and Valid Colorado Driver’s License

May be required to drive a state vehicle for perimeter checks.

Travel to assigned trainings and/or work sites

Could be pulled to another shift due to shortage of coverage.

Required to report without delay or interruption to provide essential or emergency services to ensure health, safety, and welfare.

Must take and pass a Tuberculosis (TB) test

Annual Flu shot or excepting documentation is required

Former employees of the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) who were disciplinary terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must disclose the information on your application and may not be eligible for employment at CDHS.

Must be 21 Years of age or older on date of hire.

Effective September 20, 2021, this position will require documented proof of full COVID-19 vaccination. New employees will be required to provide attestation to their status with proof of vaccination within thirty (30) business days of hire.
