Position : School Safety Officer
Job Description : Position Purpose: The School Safety Officer will provide support for the safety and welfare of students while on school grounds; monitoring personnel and/or visitors; communicating information in response to inquiries; and enforcing the school rules and regulations pertaining to student behavior and illicit substance prevention.
General Purpose: The School Safety Officer provides safety and protection for students, staff, equipment, and property while modeling and promoting a positive, productive, and safe campus climate.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides security and surveillance to school campus, including patrolling parking lots and school grounds.
Provides security to school functions, including after school and extracurricular activities when needed.
Investigates, monitors, and reports to administration, and when appropriate, law enforcement, suspicious activity, including but not limited to theft, vandalism, and criminal mischief.
Responds to emergency situations and takes appropriate actions in accordance with established guidelines and provides basic first aid services as needed.
Assists school administration and law enforcement with threat assessments.
Uses and monitors surveillance technology to ensure campus safety.
Serve as a role model and provide guidance to students regarding appropriate behaviors and the importance of following school rules; build rapport with students and assist in promoting a positive, productive, and safe campus climate.
Positively represents the school and its mission to the students, parents, colleagues, and general public.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements: Must possess or be eligible for current Peace Officers Standard Training (POST) certificate; or completion of state certified police or military police academy training; or three years of law enforcement experience; or completion of a two-year program in police science.
Experience: Prior law enforcement or School Resource Officer experience is desired.
Salary Range: $24.00 – $28.00 per hour based on experience; 176 work days, 8 hours per day
