Job Description : The University of Montana invites applications for a Social Media Manager in the VP of Marketing sector. This position implements the University of Montana (UM) social media strategy, developing brand awareness, generating inbound online traffic, and through these efforts, encourages engagement and knowledge about the University.
UM is currently pursuing a brand refresh and this position will play a vital role in helping to build that new brand. The Social Media Manager is responsible for developing and overseeing the execution of overarching strategic social media and digital initiatives for the system, working collaboratively with the campus social media teams to create and leverage content that advances the UM mission. This includes developing a social media plan for the system’s high-profile channels, managing social media campaigns, creating and posting content, effectively tracking results and using data to help inform the system’s overall strategy.
The Social Media Manager will take an institution-wide view of social media and work collaboratively with various departments and offices to elevate their brands in order to effectively reach diverse audiences of stakeholders. This person in this role is a team of one, and reports directly to the Vice President for Marketing and Communications. The person assigned to this position will need to reside in the Missoula area.
Key duties and responsibilities of this position include the following:
Develop and execute a broad social media strategy, coordinating with stakeholders across the university system to ensure its effectiveness
Oversee and manage the university presence across all social media properties, building and cultivating a vibrant community while maximizing brand equity, engagement, site traffic, and lead generation
Implement social media campaigns and manage day-to-day activities for the university. Maintain social media web site including online advocacy, writing editorial, community-outreach efforts, promotions, and similar
Ensure that social media techniques are strategic, inclusive and focused in an effort to expand the UM brand, increase visibility among existing followers, attract and engage new followers
Collaborate with a group of strategic social media stakeholders across UM
Develop measurement plan defining metrics for success
Lead campus training sessions for UM employees on social media best practices, strategy and effectiveness
Monitor effective benchmarks for measuring the impact of social media programs, and analyze, review, and report on effectiveness of campaigns in an effort to maximize results
Regularly provide feedback and data-driven insights gained from social media monitoring to evolve communications strategies in a timely fashion
Monitor trends in social media tools, technologies and applications
Monitor UM social media accounts for posts that pose harm to the University brand and/or raise issues that should be brought to the attention of those in leadership position.
Search engine optimization/search engine marketing integration, as well as monitoring and analysis of social media trends and their impact on UM.

Position Details
Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, MUS Contract and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including Insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program.
Salary for this position is $50,000 – $55,000 per year commensurate with qualifications.

Presentation skills, including the ability to collect, evaluate, display, and deliver information to a variety of audiences in a way that is easily understandable
Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple concurrent and competing tasks and responsibilities, and adapt to changing priorities while maintaining personal effectiveness
Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and stay on task when completing special projects and daily assignments
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and reliable professional judgment, as well as collaboratively with a team to achieve desired results
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education, or equivalent professional experience (professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis).
Five (5) years of equivalent experience in social media, public relations, communications, reporting or writing
