Overview of Position :

DSST seeks a remarkable leader with a successful track record of leading strong student achievement outcomes at an organization level. The VP of Curriculum and Assessment plays an integral role in defining the vision and strategy for curriculum and assessment across content areas at DSST. In managing and developing a team of content leaders, the VP of Curriculum and Assessment will transform our model for providing support to teachers and instructional leaders across the network. Reporting to the Chief of Schools, this leader will lead complex organizational change in academics while fostering highly collaborative and cross functional partnerships to advance the academic outcomes for all students at DSST.

Essential Functions :

Creates a theory of action and model to transform how Home Office content support can drive dramatic increase in academic achievement of students at DSST schools (20%)

Establishes a clear team purpose, structure, and model to impact academic results at the school and network level
Clearly defines roles and responsibilities for department leaders and their individual team members aligned to the team purpose and vision
Analyzes data and seeks feedback from key stakeholders such as school directors, managing directors and other home office leaders to evaluate the effectiveness of the theory of action and make pivots as needed.

Manages and develops a team of content leaders in providing high quality resources, support and development for teachers and leaders across DSST aligned to a coherent vision for change (40%)

Oversees the following departments: Humanities, STEM, Math, and Assessment
Directly manages and supports the development of directors of the above departments and additional team members outside of those departments
Sets clear success outcomes for each department and aligns roles and responsibilities to achieve those outcomes.
Establishes a clear approach to development of leaders, aligned to DSST’s philosophy for leader development.
Observes and coaches leaders on the ground to develop the leadership competencies and skills of individual team members.

Leads process for selection, adoption and successful implementation of Tier 1 curriculum in each content area at the middle and high school level (10%)

Evaluate current state of curriculum quality and implementation across the network.
Establish a multi-year plan for curriculum adoption and implementation across content areas.
Create processes to effectively engage stakeholders and do external research in order to select high quality curricula.
Lead change management, including robust training and development to support the successful implementation of selected curricula.

Designs and implements a coherent network assessment plan and leads network level analysis of assessment data that supports meaningful school based action (10%)

Creates vision for the purpose and use of Middle School and High School assessment at all levels
Identifies North Star Assessments by content area that align to network curriculum
Manages and develops Sn. Manager of Assessment and the Assessment Department in execution of the Assessment Vision
Oversees ongoing creation and revision process for network managed assessments
Leads partnerships with external assessment providers (e.g. ANET) in providing assessments that align with DSST’s Academic Program and Vision
Establishes a model for content departments (home office and school based content leaders) to analyze network assessment data and create school based recommendations to drive meaningful response to data

Collaborates closely with other senior level leaders at home office and schools to drive to strong academic outcomes for all of our students (20%)

Works in tandem with VP of Leader Development and Managing Directors to design leader development that leads to strong academic results at every DSST school
Leads vision and implementation of Cross Campus Collaboration (C3) in partnership with Director of Academic Programs and VP of Leader Development
Supports in the planning and execution of network teacher and leader development programming including but not limited to New Teacher Training, Teaching and Learning Institute, Instructional Leader Development, and Instructional Leadership Team Development.

Job Requirements :

Bachelor’s degree
Master’s degree in Education field preferred
At least 5 years of progressive leadership experience in a school or charter management organization
10+ Years of Professional Experience in Education
Depth of knowledge in curriculum and assessment across content areas
Proven track record of driving to results in content area(s)
Evidence of developing and executing against a strategy with strong results
Demonstrated proficiency in leading through change, executing on major initiatives, and leading cross-departmental work
Previous school leadership required, ideally in a high performing school context
Demonstrated excellence in leading professional development
Demonstrated experience in coaching and development of leaders

Vaccine Requirement:

Compensation and Benefits :

The salary range for this position is $130,000-$145,600 and is commensurate with experience*

*Final salary may be adjusted based on years of experience in a relevant, aligned role of similar level and responsibilities up to 6 years of experience.

DSST schools operate within the Denver Public Schools (DPS) and Aurora Public Schools (APS) districts.
