Job Description : STUDENT TRANSPORTATION OF AMERICAJob Description – Vice President of OperationsJob SummaryA Vice President of Operations is a salaried, exempt employee who provides support and leadership to Operations Managers and/or Area General Managers within a defined territory supporting multiple operating locations. The position ensures the highest quality of customer service is provided throughout the operating territory while managing annual business plans to achieve performance targets. The position also provides administrative support in the areas of compliance, regulations, policies and procedures. The position reports directly to the Senior Vice President of Operations for the Region and consults with the Managers of Safety, Maintenance, Human Resources, and Accounting.Specific Duties: Supports all day-to-day facility operations.Provide guidance, leadership, management and evaluation of direct reports.Oversee all payroll, account receivables, account payables and month end requirements to ensure timely submission for all operations within the assigned territory.Develop and maintain close relationships with customers to achieve transparency and proactive communications/actions to ensure service meets or exceeds customer expectations.Knowledge and understanding of all School District contracts and facility leases.Ensure that each of your School District’s student transportation designees are being supplied with all required information and assist in providing safe, reliable, on-time service through creating efficient and cost-effective solutions to routing issues.Management of monthly Profit and Loss Statements and Fixed Asset Reports.Coordination and assistance with Senior Vice President of Operations and Finance staff to develop annual financial plans for the operating territory.Develop charter and school business for assets during non-school days and summer months.Implement driver recruitment programs to ensure coverage of daily home to school routes and sufficient substitute personnel.Understanding and enforcing all STA policies and State and Federal applicable regulations as well as individual customer contract requirements.Ensures that all employees are maintaining their credentials and are provided with all necessary job training.Performs other duties as required by STA Senior Management.QUALIFICATIONSBachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or equivalent from an accredited College or University.At least four (4) years related experience or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.Prior experience managing multiple operating locations preferred.KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLSMust be competent and knowledgeable in operations policies and procedures.Written and verbal communication skills, and customer service skills are essential. Ability to deal with problems and find solutions.Must have knowledge of Federal and State regulations.Must be willing to work in excess of 40 hours per week and on some weekends.Must be highly motivated and capable of leadership by example.Must be committed to visiting operating sites within the assigned territory on a regular basis. Will attend administrative meetings and, at times, represent the location staff on behalf of the STA.Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.WORKING CONDITIONSWorking conditions are normally in an operations environment. However, the job will require travel to facilities within the operating territory and occasional work outside or in the company’s repair garages to interact with employees. Incumbent must be available to attend School District Meetings which can occur in the evenings and on weekends as necessary to meet business needs.The Vice President of Operations will be based in or near the operating territory. The position will also require frequent travel to the company’s bus terminals to interact with employees and will require overnight stays at times. This travel will generally include travel to various regional areas where the company’s operations are located. As directed by management and business need, travel may include other areas of the US.INTERPERSONAL CONTACTSThe Vice President of Operations has significant, daily contact with all levels of Company personnel and as necessary with outside entities such as insurance brokers, attorneys, business partners and the public. Contacts are generally for the purpose of dispensing information, providing technical advice or policy interpretation or for program coordination. These contacts will require considerable judgement, diplomacy and discretion and the ability to communicate clearly. The Vice President of Operations deals regularly with sensitive and/or confidential information and therefore must exercise extreme care in maintaining confidentiality and privacy.The duties listed above are intended as illustrations of the types of work that may be performed.
