Job Description : Job Description
This position serves as the senior executive management assistant to the director of the Office of Children’s Ombudsman, representing the Director in meetings, serving as a liaison between the Director and office professionals and administrative staff. Provide administrative and executive support, requiring a high degree of confidentiality, sensitivity and diplomacy and extensive knowledge of the office and department’s goals and areas of responsibility.

Position Location/Remote Office: The office is located in Lansing, MI. This position may work remotely or work hybrid (remote/office) based on operational needs. Candidates should confirm work location and schedule at the time of interview.
Required Education and Experience
Education
Education typically acquired through completion of high school.

Experience
Six years of administrative support experience where use of a computer to prepare correspondence, reports, charts, etc., or to enter/retrieve/update information is an essential part of the work, including three years equivalent to an advanced, 8-level, administrative support worker, Secretary E8, or Legal Secretary E8; two years equivalent to a Secretary 9, Legal Secretary 9, or Senior Executive Management Assistant 9; or, one year equivalent to the Division Head Legal Secretary 10 or Executive Secretary E10.
Alternate Education and Experience
Possession of an associate’s degree in applied arts and sciences in an executive secretarial science curriculum may be substituted for one year as a Secretary 9.

Leave Time

Full-time employees receive between 15 and 35 vacation days per year. Insurance and Other Benefits

Paid Parental Leave

Provides eligible individuals up to 12 weeks of paid leave immediately following birth or adoption of a child.

Deferred Compensation

Employees may invest income in a tax-deferred retirement investment program. The state offers two optional deferred compensation plans, the 457 and 401(k). Employees decide the amount deducted from their paychecks.

Retirement

Employees receive a minimum 4% state contribution toward their retirement fund. If an employee elects to contribute more, the state will match up to 3%. The Office of Retirement Services administers two different retirement plans for State of Michigan employees: Defined Benefit (DB) and Defined Contribution (DC). New hires can also receive up to a 2% employer match into a Personal Healthcare Fund and a lump-sum credit to a tax-deferred account if eligible.
