Come work with us! In this role you will perform intermediate technical work researching, analyzing, and writing in support of planning initiatives, and related work. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Principal Planner.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Maintains a general knowledge of the ON TO 2050 plan recommendations and the agency’s programs and services and makes connections to the agency’s work.

Contributes collaboratively to written content, research, data collection and analysis, data mapping, field work, and graphic design for planning, policy, or implementation initiatives.
Assists project manager and project teams with timely completion of high-quality deliverables including tracking all financial aspects of the project.
Attends internal meetings, events, and workshops and contributes to enhance teamwork and collaboration.
Assists with external outreach for effective community and stakeholder engagement including coordination, planning, meeting facilitation, staffing, and preparation of digital and hard-copy materials.
Assists with the presentation of reports, recommendations, and other findings to staff, appointed and elected officials, boards and committees, agency partners, and stakeholders.
Contributes to discussions on new programs, policies, and initiatives to implement the ON TO 2050 plan

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED (an equivalent amount of training, education and experience will be considered)
A minimum bachelor’s degree in urban planning or related field such as geography, architecture, sociology, public administration, public policy, or environmental science.
Exposure to and experience, through internships and/or limited professional practice, with urban planning projects including content development, research, data collection and analysis, data mapping, field work, and graphic design.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES including competencies that may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position.

Working knowledge of urban and/or regional planning practice and an understanding of environmental, social, land use, and transportation considerations in planning.
Working knowledge of research, data collection, analysis, and skill at compiling technical information to prepare a technical report.
Working knowledge of project management methodologies and tools.
Working knowledge of equitable practices in identifying plans, policies, programs, regulations, and processes which disproportionately impact disadvantaged communities.
Basic skills in utilizing spreadsheets, databases, and geographic information systems (GIS).
Creative problem-solving skills to assess difficult or unexpected situations and challenges and calmly and constructively identify solutions.
Ability to read and understand complex site plans and drawings.
Ability to effectively communicate technical information clearly to external and internal audiences orally, in writing, and in presentations.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, community or civic leaders, public sector officials and staff, partner agencies and organizations, and the general public.
Ability to work independently on several projects and/or initiatives simultaneously, towards project deadlines, manage workload and schedule, and ensure effective completion of tasks and projects, as assigned.
