Begin a backcountry guiding career in Canyonlands and Arches National Park. NAVTEC Expeditions is an authorized concessionaire of the National Park Service and provides interpretive four wheel drive and whitewater rafting tours.
We are currently accepting applications to fill seasonal positions in Moab Utah. Anticipated training will begin March 9 for 4×4 & March 18 for rafting. Employment will terminate November 30.
Our core mission is to provide opportunities for visitors to gather, play, learn, relax, and enjoy nature in a comfortable and responsible manner.
Moab is a small town on the banks of the Colorado River with the most stunning red rock landscapes. Abundant sunshine and warm temperatures create a good climate for outdoor pursuits.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
· US. Citizenship required.
· Background and prior employment history investigation required.
· Must possess or be able to obtain a driver’s license.
· Professional appearance is required.
· Pre-employment drug testing – Random drug testing required
· Applicants must possess a current Wilderness First Responder and CPR
DUTIES:
Guides will perform interpretive day and overnight backcountry tours with visitors in four wheel drive vehicles and whitewater rafts. This will include many facets such as; preparing and rigging of trips, loading and unloading, maintaining equipment, compliance with State BLM and NPS regulations, working under varying weather conditions, food pack, meal preparations, natural history interpretation, customer service, cleaning vehicles boats and trip gear, maintenance projects, educating visitors on backcountry etiquette.
QUALIFICATIONS: The work involves extensive physical/mental demands and requires a desire to be in canyon country. We are looking for wilderness professionals with specific backcountry skills.
To qualify for this position, applicants must demonstrate they possess specialized experience, knowledge, technical skills, or abilities related to backcountry travel. Potential employees must have an outgoing personality, a positive attitude, strong people skills, a commitment to conservation, and conduct themselves with courtesy and respect. Knowledge or the desire to acquire the knowledge of Canyonlands and Arches geology, archeology, ecology, history, and resource management is required and requires significant personal reading.
We are willing to train personable enthusiastic people with positive attitudes who are willing to commit the time and energy for the extensive on the job training needed to guide a commercial trip.
Applicants will be judged by their ability to travel and work in a backcountry setting, knowledge of resource, and ability to communicate and work effectively with guests and other guides.
