Job Description : Join the Team at the Montana Youth Challenge Academy!
Montana Youth Challenge Academy is a residential academic intervention program on the campus of the University of Montana Western for 16-18 year old students who are at risk of high school dropout. Designed by the National Guard Bureau and run through a cooperative agreement between the federal government and the state of Montana, the Academy offers military style structure and discipline along with academic, professional, and life-coping skills students need to become productive citizens. The Academy’s staff are professionals from a variety of backgrounds who share a dedication to our mission and who enjoy working in a dynamic, fast-paced, and rewarding environment.
This is a full-time position: The Cadre Instructor serves on teams to provide at-risk youth a highly structured, safe environment to develop skills and abilities necessary to become productive citizens. This position is responsible for providing crisis intervention, counseling, physical training and other services and opportunities while ensuring safety and security of the cadets. This position is included in a career ladder and placement within the ladder is dependent upon meeting all the qualifications within the policy.
Must have demonstrated ability to work and engage in diverse working environments within and outside the department.

Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
Associates degree or two year post secondary education in leadership, psychology, counseling, or other closely related field, and two years experience working with youth or two years military experience.
Previous military experience and/or experience working with at-risk youth is preferred.

Relevant Skills: Continuous learning mindset, Self-starter, organized, skilled at verbal communication, empathetic, team-player, interpersonal skills, social communications skills.
Conditions of Employment: In addition to the above education and experience the successful applicant must:
be a citizen of the United States of America;
be able to pass a background check;
be of good moral character as determined by reference and background checks;
pass a pre-employment drug test;
possess or be eligible for a valid MT drivers license;
have a good driving record.

Your paycheck is just part of your total compensation package. Upon date of hire, employees working at least half-time for more than six months are eligible for state paid premiums toward employee medical, dental, and basic life insurance coverage. Employees earn up to fifteen days of annual leave, twelve days of sick leave; paid holidays each year, and membership in the public employee’s retirement system.
