Position : Central Supply Technician – Central Supply, full-time
Job Description : The Central Supply Technician (CST), will be responsible for the daily storing, management, picking/packing and distribution of medical supplies and equipment. The CST is also responsible for medical equipment deployment, recovery, cleaning/sterilization and staging for re-use. Transports patients to and from Shirley Ryan AbilityLab to outside medical appointments.
The Central Supply Technician will consistently demonstrate support of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab statement of Vision, Mission and Core Values by striving for excellence, contributing to the team efforts and showing respect and compassion for patients and their families, fellow employees, and all others with whom there is contact at or in the interest of the institute.

Principal Responsibilities
The Central Supply Technician:
Delivers, scans, and stock bulk supplies, maintaining adequate inventory levels of all par-leveled supply cabinets.
Assists with the processing of the GP system-generated bulk supply requisitions within the replenishment schedules established in the department.
Picks supplies according to system-generated tickets accurately, bundles supplies according to the system generated Packing Slips, and delivers medical supplies to supply areas on patient floors or in other departments.
Maintains inventory in the Central Supply, monitoring stock levels, storing/rotating stock, and checking for expired items.
Manages the inventory, supply and replenishment of medical gases, including exchanging empty oxygen tanks, and retrieving empty liquid oxygen shoulder tanks and portable oxygen generators for cleaning and replenishment/recharging.
Conducts daily rounds of patient floors to retrieve discontinued medical equipment for return to Central Supply for cleaning/sterilizing and re-use.
Advises the Coordinator regarding malfunctioning or damaged medical equipment in need of review and repair by Clinical Engineering or outside vendors, documenting repair/replacement actions to properly account for all medical equipment.
Transports patients to and from outside appointments and internally to and from to treatment rooms.
Transports and maintains Emergency Carts according to procedures established by the CPR committee.
May assist with assembling and staging Enclosure Beds assemblies, as needed, to maintain adequate inventory.
Performs all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.
Required Skills
Required Experience
Work requires educational development normally acquired through high school to perform according to written procedures; correctly interpret receiving documents and supply requisitions; and perform simple calculations, and analysis.
A valid driver’s license and good driving record is required.
Minimum 3 months of orientation and training to ensure knowledge of storing and distribution procedures, as well as for on-the-job experience to learn how to safely and efficiently operate various automatic cleaning and disinfecting equipment, and to utilize aseptic techniques.
Work requires the upper and lower body strength and dexterity to safely push a medical supply cart, a patient bed, wheeled medical equipment, a patient wheelchair, and lift and move medical supplies at above-the-head and below-the-knee shelf levels. Must able to lift/move at least forty pounds of material weight.
Interpersonal skills required that provide for professional and courteous treatment of patients during transport, regardless of conditions. Also includes the ability to exchange factual information in an accurate and courteous manner with any and all Institute staff.
Ability to understand and comply with infection control, safety, and OSHA procedures and regulations.
Reporting Relationships
Reports directly to the Manager, Central Supply and Distribution
Working Conditions
Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
