Overview:
We are looking for a self-motivated and talented Communications Specialist to be part of a dynamic marketing & communications team responsible for the agency’s internal and external communications efforts. In this position, you will be responsible for producing and distributing high-quality content that engages various target audiences and builds brand recognition.
Your main duties will include creating informative/compelling content, press releases, blog posts, video content, script writing and developing media opportunities to share our company’s brand, services, impact and people. The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator, with brilliant presentation and organizational skills. Position reports to the Senior Director of Marketing & Communications.
Responsibilities:
Develop and implement effective communication strategies that strengthen brand awareness and convey impact by building relationships with media, online influencers, Children’s Bureau staff and clients, community partners, volunteer leadership, supporters, etc.
Partner with Marketing Specialist to create/manage editorial strategy including calendar and content distribution. Create and distribute content for CB website, social media, events and programs.
Create, manage and distribute informative and compelling press releases, press kits, newsletters, annual report, fact sheets, videos and related marketing materials, both print and digital.
Collect data and report results to continually improve quality and effectiveness of communications initiatives.
Collaborate with various departments to find best ways to talk about and visually represent programs and services, events, employee communication, board communications, etc. Create and/or edit content, create and/or edit presentations, and/or help to distribute final product.
Build and train internal pool of media spokespeople to speak on behalf of the agency, including staff and volunteer leaders.
Respond to communication-related issues, both internally and externally, in a timely manner.
Assist with promotion of advocacy efforts as directed by Executive Leadership Team and/or Senior Director of Marketing & Communications.
Recruit, train and manage communications interns.
Help review content documents across all departments for relevancy, consistency, and brand compliance.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations or relevant field and 5 years of experience in a similar role.
Strong knowledge and adherence of communication practices, techniques and ethics.
Proven experience creating and publishing targeted content is advantageous.
Proven experience in developing and implementing communications strategies, campaigns and tools that are clear, concise, impactful.
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
Organized, ability to multitask and work well under pressure.
Interpersonal and listening skills, team player.
Creativity and imagination.
Ability to work with various vendors and consultants; manage budgets.
Knowledge of the following software is advantageous: Meltwater, Constant Contact, PhotoShelter, Asana.
