Job Description : JOB DESCRIPTION
The Coordinator, Nat Geo Documentary Films will be based in Los Angeles and responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of National Geographic Content’s feature documentary business. This individual should be passionate about documentary films and will support all aspects of content management during each film’s life cycle from pitch through production and distribution. Such responsibilities will include tracking and evaluating submissions, writing coverage, taking meeting notes, updating internal reports, acting as an internal liaison with other Nat Geo and Disney departments, and administrative duties such as scheduling, coordinating travel and expenses as needed. This individual will be an ultra-organized team-player, an effective written and verbal communicator, able to identify priorities and handle confidential information with discretion in a fast-paced environment. This individual will be supervised by the Director and/or Manager of Documentary Films.
On the heels of National Geographic’s Academy Award-winning documentary FREE SOLO, recent films include Academy Award-nominated and Emmy-winning THE CAVE, BAFTA-nominated THE RESCUE and BECOMING COUSTEAU, Oscar-shortlisted THE FIRST WAVE, and upcoming Sundance acquisition, FIRE OF LOVE.
Responsibilities
Assist in festival submissions, tracking timelines, schedules, cuts, and other materials for all documentary films.
Maintain streamlined communication between internal and external departments for timely delivery and execution including but not limited to taking meeting notes and distributing feedback as needed.
Promote success of documentary films through coordinated festival strategy..
Respond to and deliver on all internal asks related to the day-to-day feature doc business, including but not limited to marketing, operations, production management, ad sales, communications, standards & practices, research, and business affairs. Organize and aid in cross-functional meetings and conference calls.
Provide timely flow of critical and confidential material between internal offices, ensuring that internal teams have logistical support for revenue-oriented goals of the channel and Disney+ as well as a creative grasp of our Documentary Films.
Assist in setting pitches and cataloguing submitted material for future documentaries. Evaluate, organize, track and log all incoming material to disseminate to executives. Track talented filmmakers, producers and production companies.
Maintain incoming flow of materials to secure future programming for the brand, and increase awareness of any projects that are going out in the marketplace that could be a fit for the brand.
Assist with scheduling meetings, coordinating domestic and international travel, and handle expenses for senior executives of the Doc Films team.
Create presentations and agendas for internal meetings when necessary.
Assist in managing budget for department, including monthly forecasts.
Aid in office management as team returns to an in-person work environment.
Requirements
1+ years experience as an assistant or coordinator, ideally with documentary content knowledge and ecosystem expertise.
Strong communication and organization skills.
Ability to be adaptive and effective, with the ability to learn new systems and functions rapidly.
Proficiency in Microsoft suite.
Knowledge of National Geographic brand and values.
Bachelor’s degree in Film or TV or equivalent work experience.
