Job Summary

Provides logistical support in fulfilling training and related instructional opportunities through the School of Dentistry Continuing Education Program. Designs and manages training programs. Orients users in applicable operational systems and computer software. Prepares communication materials used to instruct personnel and disburses relevant information.

This position is eligible for a hybrid (telecommuting and in-office) rotating scheduling.

Responsibilities

1. Provides logistical support for the School of Dentistry Continuing Education Program, including marketing and registration, certificates, onsite support, and developing/managing virtual formats to include online webinar, website design and email marketing.

2. Develops and manages training programs for the School of Dentistry to include staff employees, research investigators and organization representatives from outside agencies utilizing University resources.

3. Assists management in formulates teaching objectives in conformance with selected instructional methods such as individual coaching, group instruction, lectures, demonstrations, conferences, meetings and workshops.

4. Assists management with strategic planning of departmental objectives and develops training mechanisms designed to enhance those goals. Coordinates the design of professional staff development opportunities.

5. Prepares and implements adaptations to changes in policies, procedures, regulations and technologies.

6. Prepares evaluation methods in order to determine program effectiveness and makes modifications as needed.

7. Plans, schedules, conducts and documents training programs that comply with state and federal regulations.

8. Selects or develops teaching aids such as handbooks, demonstration models, videotape, newsletters, multimedia visual aids and reference works.

9. Oversees varied aspects of public relations functions and keeps the media informed regarding departmental issues.

10. Maintains the School of Dentistry Continuing Education website and e-library of related materials.

11. Ensures compliance with University policy and accreditation bodies.

12. Maintains the programs continuing education accreditation.

Experience in the use of computers for instructional and educational support including a familiarity with Internet and training experience in an educational environment preferred. Some departments may prefer experience in the use of electronic and technical equipment.

Problem Solving

This position works independently in selecting and developing training programs, but authorization for implementation goes through the department director. He/she does not generally provide direct supervision of others, although assignments are often made to support clerical staff.

Some challenges the incumbent might encounter include maintaining a positive working relationship with personnel who feel training is unnecessary; developing training for individuals with specialized needs; determining the most effective training programs within budget constraints; keeping up-to-date with training technology and resources specific to specialty; and selecting the training methods that will most effectively accomplish departmental objectives.

This position may administer a small budget designated for training materials and make work assignments to non-exempt support staff. The incumbent maintains records for all training completed.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Communication, or a related area, or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education). Two years related experience; an in-depth knowledge of the specialty area as well as federal-state laws and regulations governing their procedures; and demonstrated organizational, communication and human relation skills required. Related experience includes: instructional design, teaching, instructional video/multi-media production, public speaking, compositional writing, and computer operation.
