Job Description : Are you a passionate and proven leader in media relations? USC is seeking an Executive Director, Media Relations, for its central communications team. This role requires a leader who is strategic, creative and collaborative, and possesses deep expertise in the modern world of storytelling and earned media.
This innovative, self-starting individual will be responsible for setting the media relations strategy that supports the university’s priorities in academics, research and student experience. They will work with a team of accomplished media relations professionals to drive the earned media efforts promoting USC’s greatest accomplishments via national, regional and local media outlets.
This media relations expert should have their pulse on relevant, cultural trends and embody a curiosity that enables them to bring new ideas and solutions forward. They should also have a fundamental understanding of the transformative ways major research universities influence the world we live in. This talented professional will coordinate with the content strategy team to find ways to maximize the impact of each story through multi-channel strategies that leverage the power of each story and the interest of specific audiences.
The Executive Director of Media Relations understands the impact of directed programs and sets measurable goals for building the university’s reputation and reinforcing its leadership position in strategic areas of research, academic development and societal engagement.
This role model serves as the university’s de facto leader for media relations, providing counsel and guidance to media relations practitioners across the university and helping to develop best practices through collaborative efforts of a media relations council.
