Job Description : Shift: Rotating 8 hour shifts (3 shifts/28 day cycle) must be flexible to work all 3 shifts.
Pay: $19 to $22

While reporting to the production shift supervisor, you will be responsible for safely and efficiently unloading and storing the incoming recovered scrap material and the maintenance of the related equipment as well as general housekeeping of the yard area. You must have the ability to manually push, pull, and lift some equipment and materials as needed. Excellent attendance is crucial for the team to achieve success. You must have a proven record of success in a fast-paced environment. You must have the ability to work with various teams and have a good eye to spot defects in the packing line. You will take pride in your personal hands-on and analytical abilities, organizational skills and attention to detail.
Day to day responsibilities include:

Safely and efficiently unloading and storing of incoming recovered fiber.
Learning to and being able to recognize the different kinds of corrugated furnish (waste paper) that is used in the formula mixes for the varied grades of paper produced.
Maintaining the related equipment and general housekeeping of the yard area.
Unloading baled recovered fiber using a fork lift truck with a clamp attachment.
Moving and storing the loose recovered fiber using a tractor with a clamp attachment.
Dumping bins into the trash compactor for dewatering.
Operating a port-o-cut roll splitter safely and efficiently to cut rolls of rejected paper.
Using baling wire (15-20 wires at a time) to maintain the ragger operation, this will involve hand tying the baling wire to the ragger chain and then throwing into the pulper to help pick up debris on a continuous basis while the pulper is running. After being manually started, the “rag” is pulled up by mechanical means, but occasionally breaks off and it has to be restarted again.
Keeping the skip-hoist bucket and scavenger pits clean and free of obstruction by using a high pressure hose or manually scraping out the drain slots as needed.
Occasionally the pulper needs to be cleaned and dumped, this is where unpulpable stock is dumped into a bin on the basement. You will need to clean out the bin manually with a shovel, this is very strenuous work in hot cramped quarters, and care must be taken to avoid heat exhaustion and personal injury.
Keeping the storage area and aisles clean and orderly.
Loading the fiber onto the hydra pulper conveyor and making sure to cut the wires on the bales of corrugate. This requires the use of band snips or wire cutters. Safety glasses, a face shield, armor guard sleeves, and gloves are required when performing this function to avoid injury.
Hauling bales from storage and placing them in temporary storage areas for consumption on the second and third shifts.
Safely and efficiently operating a Hyster 8000 clamp truck to load the pulper conveyor with baled furnish and to unload baled furnish from flatbed trailers and put them into storage according to type and grade.
Safely and efficiently operating a Toyota 4500 Forklift Truck for use in hauling bins equipment, scrap rolls, etc. from one area of the mill to another.
Other duties include driving in the waste paper area among other vehicles/equipment.

This position is in our paper mill in the City of Industry, CA.

You must be okay working in a Union environment
This is a paper mill so the environment is hot and humid, you must be okay working in this environment.
You must be trained and hold a license to operate a forklift.
You have to have a “get it done” attitude and an urgency to resolve problems/tasks.
To succeed in this role you will need excellent written and verbal communication skills
Working independently and managing multiple tasks simultaneously is needed.
You need to have a working knowledge of our products and their quality requirements.
Being reliable, having good initiative, being committed, and being quality-focused is a must.
You will need to be able to lift up to 50 lbs. as needed.
Having the ability to effectively work with a team in a fast-paced environment is crucial to success.
You will need to have the ability to read and understand manufacturing instructions.
You will need to be able to perform repetitive duties, including going up and down stairs and standing for long periods of time.
You will need to have the ability to work quickly while maintaining a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail.
