Job Description : USC Dornsife has a unique opportunity for a talented and creative graphic designer to work with two teams that focus on building relationships with internal and external stakeholders to advance the mission of the college.

USC Dornsife Public Exchange is an initiative unlike any other at the University. Founded in 2020, Public Exchange fast-tracks collaborations between academic researchers and the public and private sectors to define, analyze and solve complex problems together. In the past year, Public Exchange has led a range of exciting projects to address challenges in public health and climate change/sustainability with partners including the City and County of Los Angeles and the United Nations Foundation.

The USC Dornsife Office of Advancement is responsible for generating private support for the strategic initiatives of the college. The team engages with individuals, corporations and foundations to cultivate partnerships that lead to financial contributions and works to maintain these connections by thoughtfully sharing the impact of donor generosity.

Reporting to the Senior Executive Director of Stewardship, the graphic designer will play a leading role in shaping the brand and visual identity of both Public Exchange and the Office of Advancement. The designer will work on a variety of projects including invitations, brochures, pamphlets and mailers that generate interest in the initiatives of the college and/or convey the impact of donor’s generosity, as well as design winning proposals, pitches and reports to further Public Exchange’s impact. In addition to printed materials, the designer provides support by creating presentation decks and design for Public Exchange and Advancement websites. The graphic designer is responsible for maintaining a strong and consistent visual identity within the branding guidelines established by USC Dornsife and USC.

As a successful candidate, you are able to juggle multiple projects simultaneously and have experience supporting the design needs of a high functioning team. You enjoy taking client’s concepts and ideas and turning them into creative pieces that tell a story. You have experience representing data in visual storytelling and are an expert at creating infographic content. You are able to work under tight deadlines to produce materials based on project timelines. You have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in graphic design, visual communications or a related field is required. And you are extremely comfortable working with Adobe Creative Suite for Mac as well as possess an understanding of web design and basic programming.

Preferred Qualifications:

Five years professional experience preferred.
A strong portfolio that demonstrates how graphics can be used to convey strategic messages.
Strong creativity.
Training and experience as a graphic and website designer, principles and practices of graphic composition, design, typography and illustration.
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
Demonstrated skill in the production of printed matter and digital media.
Web page design experience.
Ability to operate Macintosh computer hardware/software, industry-standard design applications including Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Word, Powerpoint and a basic knowledge of HTML and CSS as well as digital transmission method.
Experience with current design production processes, including the creation of digital print files and indicating printing specifications, as well as an ability to follow new trends in production and technology.
Demonstrated design conceptualization abilities, both when working within pre-determined style/formats and when creating original solutions.
Understanding of the entire design process, including page composition and layout; typography, scanning and color correcting images; entering editorial corrections into layouts; preparing files for production; maintaining a digital archive.
Proficient use of English spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Ability to work with various groups and individuals across campus and to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Bachelor’s degree in design, communications, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.

This position is currently remote. Once in-office work resumes, this position will be hybrid and when in office, will report to the Downtown Los Angeles location.

Salary Range: $ 32.35 – $36.26 per hour – DOE
