Position : Instructional Designer

Job Description : We are looking for six talented and motivated high school and university instructional/curriculum designers who possesses project management experience to join our team. One of those designer positions is to help with the world language design team and should have experience in instructional design and teaching foreign language. Another will be to help with the math design team and should have experience in teaching math courses. The other 4 positions are more general instructional design positions, helping with a variety of subjects. The role is to design and/or project manage innovative and relevant courses and learning experiences that will reach both domestic and international students. Work could also include administrative duties that help maintain high quality courses such as reviewing courses for student experience and quality, collaborating with instructors, SMEs, other designers, and supervising instructional design assistants. We work in a collaborative and supportive team environment. These positions are currently set up as 2-year contracts.
Essential Functions:
Incumbents will perform all the following in varying proportions depending on specific assignments:
Instructional Design

Identify and align learning outcomes for each assigned project (needs assessment).
Work with (including training and supervising) instructors or SMEs to create course map and assessment plans based on learning outcomes in compliance with Independent Study standards.
Collaborate with the Assistant Director to establish and monitor project budgets.
Identify and implement appropriate third-party learning tools.
Assemble content and learning activities in LMS to create a well-organized course.
Respond to design-related issues identified by the Course Review team.
Provide direction to instructional design assistants as assigned.

Outsourced Project Management

Guide 3rd-party course development teams to meet our project objectives and design standards.
Assess 3rd-party development results with thorough review and feedback.
Establish development deadlines with 3rd-party vendors, instructors, and SMEs.
Communicate deadlines, including ongoing modifications, to internal production teams.

Course Content Administration

Manage complex delivery workflows from the course outline phase to the course launch.
Maintain collaborative relationship with other IDs, instructors, and SMEs.

Training/Professional Development

Annually attend an instructional design-related conference or workshop, as recommended by supervisor.
Participate in peer review activities within the instructional design group.
Research instructional design theories and best practices relevant to assigned projects.
Present results of completed projects at department meetings and approved national or regional conferences.
Stay current on department policies and standards related to instructional design.
Demonstrate professional conduct and dress and outstanding university citizenship at all times.

Qualifications:
Based on the selected candidate’s qualifications, the position will be at the appropriate classification: Associate Instructional Designer, Instructional Designer, or Senior Instructional Designer level. Portfolio of assigned courses will vary depending on candidate’s background and organizational need and could include: High School or University Independent Study courses, as well as BYU Online High School courses.
Minimum education/experience required:
Associate Instructional Designer (Level 52)

Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, a Teaching Degree, or closely related field, with one (1) or more years fulltime direct work experience in the field of course design and production or education.

Instructional Designer (Level 53)

Master’s degree in Instructional Technology, Instructional Design, a Teaching Degree, or closely related field, and (3) three or more years’ work experience in the field of course design and production or education.

Senior Instructional Designer (Level 54)

Masters’ degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, a Teaching Degree, or closely related field, plus seven (7) or more years fulltime direct work experience in the field of course design and production or education. Or an equivalent combination of a bachelor’s degree in instructional Design, Instructional Technology, or closely related field, plus nine (9) or more years of fulltime direct work experience in the field of course design and production or education.

Required/Preferred skills, abilities, knowledge, licenses, certifications:
We prefer experience in online teaching or creating online high school or university courses. For the world language team position, a master’s degree is preferred in instructional design, second language teaching, or a similar field.
