Job Description : The Role
Tesla seeks a talented, business-oriented Jurisdiction Specialist who will work as part of the Supercharger team to provide assistance on key projects necessary for furthering electric vehicle priorities within permitting jurisdictions in Southern California. This Specialist will help usher Supercharger projects through the permitting and inspection processes and work directly with jurisdictions to improve compliance with state and local codes related to electric vehicle charging station deployment. This role requires excellent communication skills and tenacity, flexibility, and adaptability to the evolving needs of Tesla’s programs, projects, and organization.
Responsibilities
Work as part of the Tesla Supercharger team to provide assistance on key projects necessary for furthering electric vehicle charging priorities
Provide regional escalation support for Supercharger Design, Permit, and Inspection teams
Act as the regional permitting and inspection code expert to ensure jurisdictions are only enforcing applicable codes and have code compliant processes
Drive permitting and inspection process improvements and code compliance updates through strategic engagement with local government staff
Identify regional-level strategies that reduce permit revisions and rejections and increase inspection success
Develop strategic resources, briefing materials, and correspondence on permitting and inspection to use with local governments
Coordinate with Policy team on local escalations requiring elected official engagement and local ordinance passage
Requirements
We are looking for someone who can help the Southern California team with the following three main responsibilities:
o Permit Expeditor – prepare permit submission packages, manage permit submissions, follow up on permit process until final permits issued
o AHJ Due Diligence – research codes and ordinances, identify potential design pitfalls, prepare team for timing of permitting cycle
o Policy Engagement – educate city and county staff on policies impacting charging deployment, market updates, and current and emerging technologies regarding electric vehicle charging. Coordinate with policy team on escalations for elected official outreach and engagement.
