Number of Positions: Multiple

Duties: Under limited supervision, performs fully functional professional library work. Assists library patrons in using facility resources and provides information, reference and reader’s advisory services to patrons using both print and electronic resources. Assists library patrons with internet research and basic computer assistance. Develops and administers a comprehensive programming schedule. Evaluates programs, services, and collections and implements improvements to meet patron needs. Establishes and maintains working relationships with community organizations to promote library services. Performs collection maintenance. Promotes library programs, services and exhibits. Represents the library at community or civic events. Compiles and maintains records and reports of library activities and inventories. Assists with all customer service desk duties. May supervise the work of and train staff. Assists with departmental scheduling and timekeeping. Serves as person in charge in the absence of the branch manager or department head and ensures the orderly physical condition of facilities including security and custodial issues. Works as part of a team to meet city and library goals. Participates in professional development. Interprets the Library’s policies and procedures to the public in a customer friendly manner. Upholds the Library’s commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion. Performs related duties as assigned.

DAYS OFF: Two days per week
SHIFT: Will be required to work some Evenings and Weekends
HOURS: 37.5 hours per week to be scheduled during normal unit hours

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited American Library Association college or university with a Master’s degree in Library Science or an approved foreign credential evaluation plus two years of professional library experience.

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS
This position requires applicants to complete an interview which will include a written exercise and/or a skills assessment test as part of the interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral and written parts of the interview will be selected.

Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:

Experience working a public library
Experience working in a customer service environment
Microsoft Office applications proficiency
Presentation skills
Experience conducting programs or workshops for adults
Related supervisory skills
