Position : Library Clerk
Job Description : Questions: Contact Andrea Thurlow at athurlow@pgcity.org Wage: $10.50/hour Job Description: Performs a variety of library circulation and clerical procedures with a heavy concentration of public contact. Receives and circulates library materials. Shifts may include nights or weekends. The ideal candidate would also have flexibility to be a sub for other shifts. Functions and Duties:
Performs all circulation desk duties using computerized system
Check in/out/renew materials
Reserve materials
Collect fines
Issue new patron cards/updates cards and accounts
Provides excellent customer service to the community
Answers phone and routes calls as necessary
Assists patrons with finding materials in the library and online
Organizes work according to established procedures
Creates courteous first impression of library
Stays current in library policies and procedures and applies them consistently
Assists library patrons in use of library materials
Responds to requests for assistance or refers inquiries to a reference librarian
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Abilities and Competencies:
Ability to learn automated circulation system, and library policies and procedures
Ability to establish good staff and patron rapport and work comfortably with the public and other staff in a positive and constructive manner
Ability to deal with multiple and unexpected tasks and patrons simultaneously
Ability to operate common office equipment and assist patrons with their use
Ability to understand and carry out instructions in written and verbal format
Ability to type and spell accurately
Ability to handle conflicts and defuse the situation
Education and Experience:
High school graduate
Preferred library or customer service experience
