Job Summary
Responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and/or controlling all aspects pertaining to multimedia functions of Huntsman Cancer Institute’s Communications and Public Affairs Office. This includes creative storytelling and brand representation to internal and external audiences through online media content and photography/videography. Oversees and manages all aspects of production from pre- to post- phases, including camera/microphone equipment, technical operations such as lighting, staging, design, audio/visual direction, programming, editing, and archiving as well as compliance and regulations related to photo and video releases and HIPPA guidelines. Acts as a catalyst between the department and its customers and staff to ensure continuity and quality of service and care.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
Understand narrative structure and have a passion for storytelling.
Know and adhere to brand and style guides. Communicate the institution’s tone through photo and video.
Market and promote new and existing programs and services to internal and external customers.
Supervise and conduct interviews with various stakeholders, including senior leaders, physicians, researchers, patients, donors, and caregivers.
Work closely with executive leadership and have strong involvement in executive communication.
Work closely with social media staff to create photo, video, and occasional graphic content.
Manage and update Huntsman Cancer Institute’s YouTube channel.
Build and maintain professional relationships with counterparts at University of Utah Health and The University of Utah at large, as well as non-University collaborators, including external creative agencies.
Participate in University-wide committees to establish customer service standards and administrative plans and policies.
Ensure customer satisfaction by analyzing complaints, concerns, and suggestions and providing appropriate follow through.
Develop strategies consistent with department and institutional quality improvement program.
Forecast, develop, and implement policies and procedures in the areas of customer service, staff management, and budgetary goals and objectives that are consistent with University of Utah’s policies.
Requirements
Have very strong skills in Adobe Creative Cloud—primarily Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop/Lightroom, and Audition.
Be procient in post-production workows, media encoding, various codecs, and le exporting.
Be comfortable photographing both in photojournalistic (web, social, annual report) and formal (headshot/group photo) settings.
Basic understanding of science and/or medicine a plus.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education). Four years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of hiring department’s area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department. Master’s degree in a related area may be preferred.

Preferences
Bachelor’s degree in mass communications, journalism, film studies, related field, or equivalency required plus 4 years of directly related management of instructional or commercial media production. Strong human relations and effective communication skills required.
Ability to analyze, plan, and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop interns, freelancers, and staff to ensure smooth operations.
Master’s degree in a related area.
