Natural Resource Specialist 2 – Operations Forester – Position Overview:
The Natural Resource Specialist 2 will assist the Reforestation Unit Forester with planning, coordinating, directing and monitoring all reforestation management activities to accomplish goals and strategies of the NW Forest Management Plan, District Implementation Plan and District Annual Operations Plans. This involves:
Assisting with budget and AOP development
Drafting contracts and agreements
Interacting and coordinating with other units in the district, as well as South Fork Crews, resource specialists, Research Cooperatives and other external stakeholders
Managing data and information systems to track and monitor young stand silviculture activities
This is What You Need to Qualify:
Two years of experience in Forestry or a related Natural Resource Program and a Bachelor’s degree in Forestry or a related Natural Resource Program, or three additional years of related experience
OR

One year of experience in Forestry or a related Natural Resource Program, and a Master’s degree in Forestry or a related Natural Resource Program.
Desired Skills :
Strong background in reforestation methods and young stand management including experience in conducting/coordinating stocking surveys, planting inspections, herbicide applications, seedling evaluations, and pre-commercial thinning operations.
Working knowledge of forest management technology and recommended best management practices.
Intermediate level experience in computers and GIS (includes software such as ArcGISPro) and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access and Outlook).
Skill communicating verbally and in writing with a variety of people to answer questions, give information, and give assistance on basic scientific or technical aspects of department programs or requirements.
Skill gathering and analyzing natural resource data or statistics to solve technical problems and choose a prescribed course of action.
Skill applying policies, procedures, and pertinent laws and regulations to specific agency operations.
Must possess or obtain Public Pesticide Applicators License with Forest and Right of Way Endorsements within 6 months of hire date. The agency will provide for the exam costs, license fees, and annual recertification course fees.
