Position : Open Space Specialist
Job Description : DESCRIPTION:
Performs a variety of tasks including professional projects and maintenance of both open space and trails under the District’s jurisdiction. Responsibilities will vary seasonally to focus on natural resource stewardship and outdoor recreation goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
❖ Use spatial database system for planning, tracking, and reporting work
❖ Perform site visits and monitoring of environmental systems including vegetation, wildlife, and waterways
❖ Perform noxious weed management with mechanical, chemical, and biological methods
❖ Operate hand tools, power tools, and powered equipment, including ATVs, UTVs, e-bikes, 4WD vehicles, trailers, and spray equipment. Train and lead volunteers in implementation of department projects
❖ Develop interpretive experiences for members of public including guided hikes, signage, and online resources
❖ Assist in implementation of natural resource restoration projects on District open space
❖ Assist in the training and leading of seasonal staff
❖ Engage with the public in a professional manner
❖ Perform all duties with safety as a top priority
❖ Perform all duties while consistently upholding and demonstrating the District’s Core Values as stated in the Policies and Procedures
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
❖ Twenty-one (21) years of age or older
❖ High school diploma or equivalent
❖ Four (4) years of experience in maintenance and/or construction of natural or recreational resources, which includes experience in ecology, botany, wildlife, horticulture, trails, landscaping, or parks
❖ Experience using ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Online, and ESRI mobile applications
❖ Utah Department of Agriculture Certified Operator of Pesticide Application License, or equivalent license from another state, or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire
❖ CPR and First Aid certification within six (6) months of hire
❖ Valid U.S. driver’s license
Desirable:
❖ Bachelor’s degree in ecology, biology, or natural resources management
❖ Wilderness First Aid certification
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
v If offered a position with the District, employment will be conditioned upon the results of a background check
