Job Description Would you enjoy hosting the public and working in one of the most popular outdoor recreational areas in Utah? If so, we have the job for you! Dead Horse Point State Park is recruiting a Park Ranger (Non LE) to oversee gift shop operations and to assist the rest of our park management team with providing over 1 million visitors per year with the adventure of a lifetime as they visit the park from around the world. This employee works four 10-hour shifts each week and a state vehicle is generally available for commuting to the park and back to Moab. Park housing is NOT available for this position. Principal Duties As the Park Ranger (Non LE) you will…

Manage gift shop operations and visitor center conference room reservations
Manage a large retail budget, work with vendors, place merchandise orders, pay invoices, and manage inventory
Supervises volunteers and seasonal staff which includes hiring, training, scheduling, delegating, monitoring, and reviewing work
Assists with fee collections, camping and yurt registrations, and day-to-day customer service needs
Perform janitorial and maintenance responsibilities which will include cleaning restrooms, campsites, yurts, trail improvements, etc.
Respond to medical incidents and rescues inside the park and ensure that visitors have a safe and enjoyable experience
Actively work and communicate with the other members of the management team to improve the visitor experience and increase park revenue
Limited involvement in dark sky and other interpretive programming.

The Ideal Candidate

Highly organized and detail-oriented with excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
Ability to be proactive, plan strategically, and make good decisions quickly
Ability to mentor and supervise seasonal staff and volunteers
Experience working in a fast-paced retail and outdoor recreation environment interacting with customers and operating a point of sale system
Ability to track and stay within an established budget while growing the business and meeting the customer’s needs
Willing and able to work weekends, holidays, and commute 65 miles per day (a vehicle is usually provided by the park in Moab)
Experience and training related to search and rescue and medial responses

Typical Qualifications

(includes knowledge, skills, and abilities required upon entry into position and trainable after entry into position)

Bachelors Degree in natural resources, park management, outdoor recreation, or related field or at least 4 years professional experience in comparable State or Federal Park
Experience with retail sales, accounts payable, marketing, cash handling, operating a point of sale system, working with vendors, providing excellent customer service, supervising subordinate staff, delegating assignments, and communicating with other team members
The ideal candidate will have excellent time management skills, be able to proficiently operate a computer, and will be detail-oriented
Experience and training related to responding to medical emergencies
Experience working in a fast-paced outdoor recreation and retail setting
Maintenance and janitorial experience in a parks and recreation environment.

Supplemental Information

Risks found in potentially dangerous or unusual environmental stress situations, e.g. working in extreme outdoor weather conditions, working in remote wilderness areas and/or boating/OHV areas, etc.
Work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities and recurring lifting.
The employee will be required to become an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) within the first year.
Required State of Utah Training including, but not limited to, Defensive Driving, Security Awareness, PCI Security Awareness, Respect in the Workplace, Ethics, Emergency Medical Responder, etc.
Housing is NOT available for this position at the park
A state vehicle is usually available for commuting to the park and back to the regional office in Moab
This position works four 10 hour shifts including weekends and holidays
