The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is looking for a skilled and motivated person to be responsible for checking required credentials including MCS-150 applications, CDL, medical card, and Unified Carrier Registration, check vehicle and load documentation including registrations, Driver Vehicle Examination reports, and any required permits. You will need to be familiar with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, Utah Administrative Code, POE Operations Guide, UDOT Policies & Procedures, Utah Regulations for Legal and Permitted Vehicles, Tax Commission Motor Carrier Manual, US Emergency Response Guidebook, Department of Agriculture Division of Animal Husbandry Information Book, bridge formulas for divisible and non-divisible loads. You will issue out-of-service orders, citations and warnings for infractions and misdemeanors involving violations of federal and state laws, rules and regulations as required, work with computers, barcode scanners, cash drawer and other specialized equipment.

Principle Duties
As a Port of Entry Agent, you will:

Support, track, and respond to MCD online permit system, and customer hotline support, division correspondence, and administrative support.
Schedule and conduct inspections and/or investigations.
Ensure compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, and/or agency rules, standards and guidelines, etc.
Visually examine objects for compliance with established requirements.
Interpret, clarify, explain and apply agency policy and procedures, business practices, federal or state laws and regulations, etc.
Maintain and/or create files or record keeping systems. Sort, label, file and retrieve documents, or other materials.
Receive and record cash payments; processes related paperwork.

The Ideal Candidate
The best person for this position is someone who:

Is at least 18 years of age
Has a high school diploma or equivalent
Has a valid driver’s license
Lives within 50 miles of the Echo Port of Entry
Communicates clearly, concisely, and effectively both orally and in writing
Has the ability to perform basic math calculations

Knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations and/or policies and procedures
Ability to ensure compliance with contract terms, policies and procedures, etc.
Ability to establish, organize and/or maintain files
Ability to assemble, sort, and/or distribute documents, supplies, and/or materials/items
Ability to conduct a methodical examination

Here is some information you should be aware of:

This position requires access to the Utah Criminal Justice Information System (UCJIS). Please note: we will be unable to make an offer of employment to those who can’t obtain system access. Any of the following will result in system access denial:

Pending cases or open dispositions for deniable offenses (listed below)
Felony convictions
Misuse of UCJIS information conviction (UCA 53-10-108)
Computer Fraud convictions

This position requires shift work, which may include night shifts alone, holidays and weekends.
This position works in an office and in an outdoor environment.
This position has risks which require the use of special safety precautions and/or equipment, e.g., working around operating semi trucks
The work requires physical exertion. May require the ability to stand; walk over rough surfaces; bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time.
Employee may be reassigned to a different location as deemed necessary by the Region Director/Group Leader.
