General Summary
This position supports the execution of the Institute for Housing Studies (IHS) applied research and technical assistance work and helps connect IHS’s work to local and national policy issues. The position would be responsible for 1) working with housing and community development stakeholders to understand local data needs and completing technical assistance requests, 2) tracking local and national housing and urban policy, 3) supporting IHS community engagement and communications work, and 4) testing, analyzing, and visualizing a broad range of housing and neighborhood data.
This position is funded by a grant or gift. If the grant/gift terminates for any reason, if grant/gift funding is lost or reduced for any reason, or if the budgetary needs for fulfilling the grant/gift requirements change, your employment with the university will be immediately discontinued.
Responsibilities & Duties

Tracks, reports on, and catalogs relevant housing and community development related policy and research at local, state and national level.
Provides background research on issues relevant to new or ongoing IHS projects.
Participates in scoping discussion with issue-area stakeholders.
Develops IHS content and materials on these topics for external and internal distribution.
Works with IHS staff to complete technical assistance requests from external stakeholders.
Supports outreach and engagement efforts with local and national housing and community development stakeholders.
Supports the implementation of IHS’s communications strategy including web site updates, social media updates, emails, and other mass communications efforts.
Works with IHS senior staff to test and analyze data and support the production of reports, maps, and tables in response to internal and external data requests.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, public policy, geography, or some related field.
Strong writing ability and verbal communications skills.
High attention to detail and ability to work in a collaborative setting.
High level of self-motivation, ability to work independently, and a willingness to learn new skills.
Background and strong interest in housing and community development issues.

Preferred Requirements

Master’s degree.
Background working with data in an applied research context.
Experience using ARC GIS.
