Job Description : The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures furthers the understanding, celebration, and preservation of cinema through inclusive and accessible exhibitions, screenings, programs, initiatives, and collections. Welcoming visitors from Los Angeles and around the world, the Museum works in active partnership with motion picture artists and specialists, scholars, staff, and diverse communities to contextualize and challenge dominant narratives around cinema, inspiring discourse, connection, joy, and discovery.
Reporting to the Assistant Curator, the Research Assistant will conduct primary research for an upcoming exhibition at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. The exhibition will focus on the origins of Hollywood, exploring the circumstances and key figures that made Los Angeles the moviemaking hub it still is today. You will offer additional research and writing support for digital projects related to this exhibition, perform administrative duties, and support the curatorial team. You must have strong understanding of cinema history in the early 20th century and excellent research skills.
This is a limited term position through June 2023.
You Will:

Work with the curatorial team to provide research and support all aspects of content creation for the exhibition as well as digital projects developed in relation to the exhibition.
Conduct research into Hollywood film and cultural history.
Conduct biographical, object, image, and film research and gather image captions.
Research and contact rights holders related to digital projects.
Assist in checklist administration.
Work on administrative duties related to the assigned projects.
