Position : Safe Passage Community Watcher

Job Description : Position Objective and Summary:
The Community Watcher is posted on community streets and intersections to provide safe passage for students. Students and families are engaged to increase safety to and from school and to essentially improve student attendance, which may lead to increased academic achievement.
Responsibilities:
Conduct daily monitoring of streets and intersections around community schools.
Ensure safety of students by identifying potential conflicts and working collaboratively with community resource networks to diffuse situations.
Support student attendance by encouraging them to attend daily and support their families by ensuring a safe passage.
Build relationships with community residents by increasing their awareness of the safe- passage program and engaging them whenever possible.
Act as Mandated Reporter.
Professionalism and Work Conduct:
Behaves with integrity, self-control, demonstrates high ethical standards, and displays a positive image of UCAN.
Act in a professional manner at all times and maintains appropriate boundaries with clients.
Demonstrates accountability for results and keeps commitments to others.
Reports to work, meetings, training, and job related activities prepared and as scheduled.
Demonstrates openness and respect for cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of clients and coworkers.
Accepts feedback and ideas from supervisor and other team members as well as being constructive when giving feedback and ideas to others.
Discusses alternative problem solving and is receptive to new ideas and ways of doing things.
Professional Development
Attends regular supervision, team meetings, required training, and other professional workshops to enhance job skills.
Sets annual developmental goals with supervisor to meet learning needs and interests, while also enhancing job performance and skills.
Performs other related tasks as required or assigned.
Education /Job Experience/Certification:
High school diploma or GED preferred. Some work or College internship experience preferred.
Valid government issued identification.
Minimum of two or more years of work experience, preferably with youth.
Special Knowledge and Qualifications:
Experience working with at-risk youth preferred.
Experience living or working in at-risk community preferred
Knowledge of North Lawndale Community resources preferred.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Work Environment:
This position requires work off-site and in the community
This position requires evening and weekend work hours
Education /Job Experience/Certification:
