The Department:
USC’s Office of Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) provides a safe and environmentally healthy workplace for students, employees, and the surrounding community. To support the academic research and administrative activities of the university by anticipating potential risks, evaluating safety procedures, and developing new safety procedures and programs.
The Position:
We are seeking a Safety Technician II to join our outstanding team. Under the supervision of the EH&S Occupational Health and Safety Supervisor, the Safety Technician II will assist in maintaining several safety manners such as training, fit testing, record keeping, incident investigations, and risk assessments, as we continue to provide safe and environmentally sound work and learning environments for our students, employees, and our surrounding communities.
Job Duties/Responsibilities Include:
Inspects facilities to ensure safety and compliance with university and regulatory policies and requirements.
Trains and gives guidance to less experienced technicians.
Assists with audits, sampling efforts, safety training, and emergency exercises.
Assists in initiating appropriate corrective actions in consultation with the appropriate safety specialist.
Maintains records and files on all program-related activities, as required.
Responds to emergencies.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The university reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.
Preferred Qualifications
HS Diploma or equivalent and 2+ years of college studies focused on Occupational Health & Safety
Ability to effectively read, write and speak English
Ability to be proactive in your approach to problem-solving and operating independently
Must have a safety mindset
Detail-oriented and enjoys working in a team environment
Strong sense of urgency, time management, and organizational skills
Ability to wear personal protective equipment including lab coats, respirators, safety gloves, and eye protection where necessary
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
