Position : Summer Trail Crew – Mountain Operations

Job Description : Position Summary:
The trail crew shift lead position is a summer seasonal full-time position. Trail crew shift lead will conduct a wide variety of mountain operation tasks and act in a supervisory role with the trail crew members. This position will require working outside in a variety of weather conditions and a high level of fitness is necessary. This position is typically scheduled at 40 hours a week. Some weekends are required.
Job Description and Focus:

Oversee daily operations of the WPR trail crew
Oversee safety of the WPR trail crew
Oversee productivity of the WPR trail crew
Act as a liaison between the WPR trail crew and the Patrol Manager
Perform a wide variety of mountain operations/patrol tasks
Use chainsaws, brush cutters, hand saws and loppers to thin forest and make trails
Dig holes and install signposts and fixed area boundary posts
Build and paint signs, flag rope and other tasks as necessary to prepare for winter operations
Install wind fencing and other on-mountain projects
Assist with lift and Avalauncher installation as needed
Install bomb trams and other snow safety infrastructure
Maintain and sharpen equipment as necessary
Provide medical care to mountain employees and construction workers
Train and operate as on-call wildland firefighter
Other duties as assigned by management
Safety equipment is required (metal or reinforced toe footwear)

License or Safety Requirements:

Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with others.
A willingness to safely do whatever task is needed to get the job done.
Solid decision-making skills.
The ability to hike in steep terrain with packs weighing up to 50 pounds and lift/carry equipment and materials weighing 70 pounds or more.
Walking through working in uneven and rugged terrain
Ability to tolerate inclement weather
Comfortable operating a variety of hand and power tools up to 10 hours a day.
Safely operate company vehicles including trucks, side-by-sides and snowmobiles
Must have a valid driver’s license
Must be willing to follow WPR policies and procedures
Must be 18 years of age

Offers of employment may be contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation
Physical Requirements (must have the ability to):

Read and write (English).
Communicate verbally and effectively with necessary parties with or without two-way radios.
Give and/or follow verbal and written instructions.
Work outdoors, occasionally in extreme heat.
Visually inspect all work areas.
Operate equipment for several hours at a time.
Stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, twist, turn, bend and kneel for extended amounts of time.
Lift up to 50 lbs occasionally, 25 lbs frequently, and 10 lbs constantly.
