Job Summary
Operates and monitors the HVAC and other mechanical systems on Campus using the Building Automation System. Makes necessary adjustments and repairs, as needed, to maintain proper function. Ensures the efficient, safe and proper operation of the High Temperature Water (HTW) Plants, water temperature distribution system and related equipment. Analyzes and treats various HTW problems for the campus.

Essential Functions:
1. Ensures the HTW Plant remains operational 24 hours a day in order to provide continual heating, domestic hot water and steam for the University community.
2. Monitors equipment, pumps, pressure gauges, blow down tanks and vessels.
3. Monitors and records readings of water, gas and electric meters.
4. Opens and closes large and small valves in confined spaces. Lubricates gate and globe valves.
5. Maintains and cleans the HTW Plant.
6. The employee will work a rotating shift, and will be required to work holidays as needed.
7. Operates and monitors the Solar Turbine and Waste Heat Recovery Systems.
8. Monitors building automation systems throughout campus and communicates with proper personnel to resolve issues.
Comments:
This position is on call 24/7 and is responsible for both employees and facilities day and night. This position has extreme danger potential and the containment to the HTW Systems are imperative. Immediate emergency response is required, often times under difficult conditions. Incumbent may be required to provide on-call coverage. The incumbent may be called in at any time to perform emergency repair work. He/she must be able to function under a rotating shift system, as per the schedule listed, and work in a continuous noise-producing environment. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
Problem Solving:
Incumbents are authorized to respond to service calls, assess needs or damage and make decisions regarding the course of action to be taken. They can make repairs or call on the required trades, as needed. They are also authorized to advise the appropriate administration of the situation.
The incumbent ensures proper operational control of the HTW System during normal and emergency activities. This position is responsible for taking proper action by containing failure and restoring back to normal operating perimeters.
Minimum Qualifications
Four years of experience in HVAC operation, repair and maintenance and demonstrated human relations and effective communications skills are required. The ability to cooperate with other shop craftsman and staff is also required.
Knowledge of the Building Automation Systems is preferred.
Dependent upon department of assignment, a valid Utah driver’s license may be required.
This position is not responsible for providing patient care.
